Which are the best ham radios?

Not sure what external speakers you've tried on the 897 but the yaesu SP-8 seemed to sound the best to me. Congrats on getting that 25yearold rig wish too! Woody

    Looking for a book

TNX! I've read it 3 times so far, and have 3 copies (softcover, and two hardcovers with different artwork). If they wrote more books like that, there'd be more HAM's on the air today.

I finally fixed my SSB page

A long time ago, in a galaxy faraway......I lost my oreo photo's!! Since then, I've been plagued by people saying I was too cheap to buy some oreo's and redo the page. Well, after years of picking up pennies, nickels, and dimes off the pavement I finally bought a small package - thus, a...

How Exports compare against the old tube types such as Tram

Well, there ya have it, the FT-101 series is the best of both worlds and a personal favorite of mine. No reason you can't keep 'em both and use whichever one suits you at the time (of course to even it out, you have to get a Stoner Pro40 to sit on the bench waiting for a call to pinch hit!)

    dual band base ant.duplexer

My IC-207 dual band does not require a duplexer, but I seem to recall a rig I once owned that did, and I bought a Diamond. It worked very well

    INTERFERENCE FILTERS????????

If you're running an A99 and a rig like an RCI2990 with a dirty amp, you may not be able to correct it. Hard to answer without more data.

How Exports compare against the old tube types such as Tram

If I am going to use SSB, I would use a Tram. The Browning 2-pc isn't as easy to run on sideband. If I am going to use a Tram, I would use the D201A because while you can modify the D201 23ch model for higher freq's via the tuner, it will drive you crazy drifting. If I live in a hot humid...

I used to have quite a few, but thanks to back problems I got rid of most of them, except for a few jewels like my Hallicrafters SX-28 Woody

    Dayton

Re: yes It's like when I plan for months to attend the Spring or Fall Belton, Texas hamfest, and that Friday before, the gremlin comes out and I end up spending the night at work replacing a server drive and then doing a restore.....it's that dark hamfest cloud over me I think.

    Dayton

One of these days, before I kick the bucket, I want to go to the Dayton Hamvention. In the meantime, if anyone is going, I'd sure like to experience it via pictures....so if you're going, and have a digital camera, keep 'ol Woody in mind! -TSG

    What if ?

I'm an Icon fan, in the likes of the IC-751a, IC-738. But I guess I swing more towards Yaesu (with the exception of the FT-100). And while I use the ham rig to tune around 11m or thereabouts on receive, I talk on my older 11m rigs like the Stoner Pro40, Cobra 2000, and EFJ 4740.
