    so the noise starts once you start HRD? until then (i'm a mac guy, and haven't tried hrd yet so just speculating) windows recognizes the radio but there's no data transfer? imo it's prob the usb cable from radio to 'puter....hrd and your radio interacting....is the cable choked?

    multiband base choices...

    i bought my ft-950 before writing...gave me the incentive :) i wrote and got basic (6m and up), and having no interest in vhf i re-wrote and got my basic w/honours. If i ever do acquire an interest for the higher bands i'll get a second rig but until then the 950 is serving me very well 160-6

    Love the analogy KG0MN lol I've already picked it up, just waiting to assemble it. A couple things i have run into so far is 1) the 80 coil's long lead was about 1.5" short and 2) i had to bore out the upper fibreglass section to accommodate the bushing. I "might" get a couple of 65' radials...
