Hey all..
got my hands on a little 250w amp, would like to run it after my 257HP wound down to probably 2w (leaving the factory amp inline, but gain WAY DOWN). Not sure what the amp is, it says galExy...ya with an E not an A so i'm having a bitch of a time finding anything out on it. It has...
k, so i have another question regarding this type of antenna...
regarding grounding...not ground plane but an actual ground.
the whole upper section is core side of the coax, the bottom couple of inches and the ground plane work off of the braid. I've heard a lot of talk about (in the case of...
LOL
No idea about the tune Robb :( And definitely appreciate Boots n bob's input and suggestions (sorry bob missed your post as it was made 'bout the same time as mine), will look into your suggestions seriously. Ground rod etc is outta the question, it's a rental. We originally had the...
he's running rf gain full out...and likes to kick up the power mic as well (which is when it apparently causes the "issue"). i'll try and get my meter on it and check the swing (he only ever uses ssb) the radio internal meter shows 150w but who knows how reliable that is lol
PS is internal, has...
my uncle has a 2995dx, which is in an upstairs bedroom...
8x leading out a window to an a99 that is sitting on a tripod (due to BS housing restrictions). coax (approx. 50 foot) is choked at feedpoint with 5 turns on a 4" piece of white abs/pvc

I'll get better acquainted with the electrical fundamentals as i slowly progress looking to "up" what i'm using now. Education through experimentation ya might say :)
Maybe I'll buy something I have to learn about in Dayton
will be a Titanic trib on 507.77 for those interested in history
Quoted from the RAC website:
To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic disaster, the Marconi Radio Club of Newfoundland will be transmitting a special bulletin near 500 kHz, the distress frequency used by the radio...
couple of comments here confirm my "suspicions"
AVR Freaks :: View topic - Do USB cables really need ferrite chokes?
quick and easy snap-on design, or i believe there are cables already pre-assembled available
USB Ferrite Choke
so the noise starts once you start HRD? until then (i'm a mac guy, and haven't tried hrd yet so just speculating) windows recognizes the radio but there's no data transfer? imo it's prob the usb cable from radio to 'puter....hrd and your radio interacting....is the cable choked?
explains why when i was listening to a recent contest there was one guy just a hair below the RAC's listed set-points...i thought "hmmmmm, sneaky", but now i see it's a legit practice
Thanks :)
i bought my ft-950 before writing...gave me the incentive :)
i wrote and got basic (6m and up), and having no interest in vhf i re-wrote and got my basic w/honours. If i ever do acquire an interest for the higher bands i'll get a second rig but until then the 950 is serving me very well 160-6
Love the analogy KG0MN lol
I've already picked it up, just waiting to assemble it. A couple things i have run into so far is 1) the 80 coil's long lead was about 1.5" short and 2) i had to bore out the upper fibreglass section to accommodate the bushing.
I "might" get a couple of 65' radials...
