I think my KG-UV6D arrived broken?

Good info. :thumbup1: I just looked at the instructions online and it says that if no operation is conducted within 15 seconds the AUTOLK feature will lock the keypad. If this feature was active when you received the radio it could very well be why the radio is unresponsive. Press and hold the...

I think my KG-UV6D arrived broken?

If you think the radio has a glitch, have you tried to reset it to see if it will function properly after that?

    UTC time?

Set up a secondary clock on your computer or install a clock program and you'll never have to wonder what time it is again.

    Antenna Painting ?

IMO Plasti-Dip is a better alternative to paint. It will hold up better to inclimate weather and UV, and if the antenna is fiberglass it will help to prevent it from splitting over time.

    General Stonewall Jackson disable Talkback

I would determine which wire on the switch is for talkback then do one of the following: Remove the wire from the switch (permanent disable) Remove the wire from the switch, run it to one leg of a SPST switch, then run a piece of wire from the other leg back to the switch. (on/off talkback...

    MFJ 949E Help?

Actually, the 969 does require power to measure PEP correctly. This is directly from the instruction sheet on page 1: NOTE: The meter ON/OFF switch must be ON for the meter circuit to function. The MFJ-969 wattmeter circuit does not function accurately if the Auto Tuner in your radio is used...

    MFJ 949E Help?

Although the 969 requires power to operate, the 949 does not. The only thing the wall wart is for is to provide power for the lighting. I operate mine all the time without the wall wart plugged in and it works just fine. ;)

    A Few Radios For Sale

Considering this was posted 2 years ago I think it's safe to say everything has been sold.

    Silver Eagle 2 piece head

AFAIK the curved rubber pieces should be there...at least they have been on every D104 head I've disassembled.

    Repeater offset help

Check out page 65 of the manual and set up automatic repeater offset. The default offsets will get you into 99.9% of all repeaters as long as you have the correct PL. ;)

    HAM exam questions??

A lot of that 'unnecessary crap' can keep you out of trouble...like knowing what portion of a particular band your license allows you to transmit in, the band edges, power limitations, etc. In all honesty, the Tech license is not that difficult to obtain. The majority of it is nothing more than...

    MFJ 949E Help?

I use the settings listed in the instructions as a starting point and fine tune from there. http://www.mfjenterprises.com/pdffiles/MFJ-949E.pdf If you can't get it to tune an acceptable SWR then it may not be functioning properly and need repair.

    Hm-151 ic-7000

  Have you adjusted the brightness control? I think default is 70%. Turn it up to 100% and it will brighten the lighting in the mic. You'll also need to adjust the contrast for the display, but that won't change the mic.

your favorite CB myth , lies and legends .

LOL...Yep, the asshole syndrome doesn't discriminate. You can find them on all the amateur bands, the CB...even GMRS and MURS. An asshole is an asshole. No license required...even though some do possess them.

your favorite CB myth , lies and legends .

Yep, I raised an eyebrow and thought WTF when I read that too. I didn't bother to reply though because it would have just created an argument. Hey now...I resemble that comment...or at least some think so.:wink:

How well will a Ringo Ranger AR-2B perform w/o the radial kit?

A line isolator uncouples your signal from the feedline to prevent it from radiating. The MFJ-915 is an example of an rf isolator. LOL...I think he meant radial...not radio

    IC-706 or IC-7000

That is the mod that was used to enable MARS on my 7000. As far as the TV mod goes I suppose you could use a digital to analog converter, but it just seems like it would be more hassle than it's worth. If I wanted TV in my car I'd buy a DVD HU with a digital tuner built in then hook the video...

How well will a Ringo Ranger AR-2B perform w/o the radial kit?

Did you mean the ARX-2B? The AR-2B doesn't require radials. If it is the ARX the radials are important and required for proper tuning and performance. A quick search shows a part number for the radials of 082970. You might be able to get replacements through MFJ/Cushcraft. Another...

    COBRA 2000 GTL

I guess I'm the exception to the rule. The only thing that has been done to my 2000 (other than TBS updates) is I had the alignment, modulation and power output checked and adjusted. It has a 3 watt carrier/12 watts pep on AM and 12 watts pep on SSB. The only addition has been a second speaker...
