VX-7R and softmod with VX7 Commander

I'm not aware of an alernate method of restoring the radio to factory specs. I transfered a copy of the original file onto a CD for safe keeping. That way if I have a HD failure I can still restore the radio. Good luck...hope the software works for you.

VX-7R and softmod with VX7 Commander

I think the default settings in the software are for the U.S. version of the VX-7R. I believe the "EXP" version you have is the European/Export version. I found a web page that explains how to open up that version by physically removing all the jumpers: Ote and note...

looking to buy Base Desk mic

I have a silver eagle (with box and paperwork) and a sliver k eagle (no box or paperwork). Both show some slight wear but overall are in very good condition. Send me a PM with your email address if interested in either one and I'll send you some pics and a price.

Request someone advise me on coax adapters

Where are you located? The US version of the FT7900R has the "M" (SO239) antenna connector and the Export version uses the "N". Instead of using an adapter (if you do have the N connector) you could make a PL-259 to N cable, or (if your soldering skills are marginal) there are several places...

New not so proud owner of an IC-7000

That was my first thought as well. Make sure your antenna is connected to ANT 2 - the one closest to the heat sink.

    Dipole noise level

I found the noise antenna is going to be the biggest factor in how well you can attenuate interference. Since my interference is from external sources (power lines and machinery at local business) I didn't get much relief until I put a noise antenna outside. You also need to play with the...

    Dipole noise level

X3 on the ANC-4. I also suffer from a hellacious noise level around here (S9+) during the day/early evening. On most bands I can dial it down to S3/S4 with the ANC-4. At night I have around an S5 noise level and can dial it down to =< S1. They're a bit spendy but (to me) was worth it. The...

Crackle interference when other truck too close

It sounds to me like the close proximity of the transmitting radio is overloading the receive of your radio. When you are that close to them turn your rf gain down.

Very cool...it's always nice when someone takes the time to send a hardcopy QSO confirmation. The colorful ones make nice wallpaper. :thumbup1:

coil height on mobile antennas ????

If the greatest majority of the wraps are concentrated at the top then yes, it would be considered a top load antenna. The wraps on a countinous load antenna are (more or less) uniform across the entire length of the antenna.

coil height on mobile antennas ????

A loading coil is used on a shortened antenna to cancel out capacitive reactance so the antenna will be resonant. The higher the ratio of reactance to resistance the smaller amount of loss. When the coil is elevated it (as Doc mentioned) improves radiation efficiency. The same principal applies...

    Rotatable Dipole

Here's a rotatable dipole I slapped together a couple weeks ago out of some bits and pieces I had laying around: I'll be using it for 10m/11m. I'm still waiting for some decent weather day (it's been raining like a cow pissin' on a flat rock lately) so I can get out on the roof and put it...

    WTB: Astatic d104 m6b

I think what you may be looking for is the D104M6 (no "B' or "C" suffix). They were sold as the Minuteman I & II. They had a dark green or black back and a chrome front with Astatic embossed below the microphone screen.
