And just how have you reduced your usable power by any significant amount? Unless you are using crap for feedline, or an unreasonable length, most of the power will be re-reflected to the antenna for radiation. I feed a 220 ft doublet with 100 ft of 450 ohm ladderline, a 4:1 balun and an AT-11...

    2 antenna mobile

Hygain used to make a mobile co-phaser box that you could use to phase two antennae. by switching the control, you could change the directivity of your signal. Anyone remember these, or am I dating myself. Rich

It's overkill. You are trading a slight bit of forward gain for the loss of a bunch of F/B rejection. Rich

    hi swr

Not in a good meter, designed for the power level that you are using. However, if you take a $10 meter, designed for the typical 4 watt CB, it will work on much higher power levels, but you will have to crank the calibrate knob way down. I suspect that the erroneous reading at higher power...

    hi swr

This depends on the meter that you are using, but for most of the cheaper ones, this is all too true. Rich

    hi swr

Apparently your first reading was taken between the radio and the amp. This will only tell you the match between the radio and the amp's input. 1.2-1.5 is fine. When you moved the meter to the output side of the amp, did you recalibrate the meter to the higher output of the amp? If not, do so...

    Receiver sensitivity/ adjacent channel rejection

No amount of adjacent channel rejection will block splatter from a dirty signal. By definition, they are transmitting on your channel and many others. Good rejection will however, prevent strong signals that are clean from being picked up by your receiver, more or less. Rich

    Bird reflect watts

Please notice that I said: 10%, or less. Even with 10% reflected, you are under 2 to 1 SWR and your finals will work fine there. Depending upon the feedline that you are using and the length of the run, you will still be radiating 98%, or better, of your power. Using a 25mW slug to tune your...

    Bird reflect watts

You're going to get all kinds of answers on this one, but if you keep your reverse reading to 10% or less of your forward reading, your SWR will be less than 2 to 1. Rich

    SNR

An active antenna is really nothing more than adding a preamp. Preamps amplify noise, as well as signal, so it is not surprising that your SNR did not rise as much as you expected. I maintain several repeaters at dense communications sites and preamps do more harm than good, most times. With a...

    Ahhhhh-Deeeee-Yoooooo!

If you are to enjoy the "better" sound of the wide band signals, then you have to open up your receive filters. When you do that, you throw away a lot of performance. I think that it is a poor trade to trash the many for the benefit of a few. That is why the bandwidth standards were adopted in...

    SNR

It does indeed, stand for Signal-to-Noise-Ratio. A GPS signal that is received with less than a 6 SNR is to be considered unreliable for good accuracy. Rich

    Time for your flu shot!

Antibiotics will do nothing for the flu. They are not meant to be used on, nor will they kill viruses. Most likely you had strep throat. Fire your doctor.
