    latest skip conditions

First off, My antenna is down (I know, that sux). I had plans for doing some major upgrades on the tower because the one I had up was meant to be temporary while I experimented with my inverted V dipole. Well, things around this farm got very busy and it seemed like the weather never was...

    Grounding

Thats pretty much what I thought *grin* but just wanted to make sure.

    Grounding

Now I know that grounding is NOT an option with antennas, but I have never found the grounding requirements for dipole antennas, more specifically inverted V antennas. This may sound very newbish, but how would one go about grounding a balanced antenna system such as an inverted V?

    FL2100B cloudy tubes?

Unless the cloudiness wasn't there before you first fired it up, I wouldn't worry. When tubes are manufactured there is something called a getter that burns off any remaining air inside the tube when it is fired up for the very first time. when the getters burn, they can leave some residue behind.

Do I really need two alternators

Well, I don't want to sound like a smart-ass, but I've seen similar problems with kids running big car stereo amps. The conversations have gone something like this; "I don't understand, I got a 165 amp alternator." Me: "Sonny, your stereo is pulling 200+ amps. All the big caps and batteries...

Do I really need two alternators

Your right, there are shut downs (the car goes in to "limp home" mode) and regulators (buck/boost?), but it would, best case scenario, cause the check engine light to go on. Either way, IMHO, dual alternators would be the way to go. The way I look at it, batteries are not a source of power...

Do I really need two alternators

If it were me, I would run dual alternators. Yes, you can add batteries and maybe a big cap (no where near the capacity of a battery, but much faster response) to smooth out the rough edges, but remember, power in (should) equal power out. If you ask an alternator to run at 110% all the time...

    Inverted V angle

I think I have a good working inverted v now. I added my home brew BALUN, have the antenna feed point at 31' and my angle is about a 100* included angle. I am getting an SWR of 1.3 to 1.5 across the band with an element length of just under 100". It's working great, getting good tx and rx and my...

Example of over the top ebay auctions! $699+$108 Shipping!LOL

In addition to the galaxy, the same seller also has a Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB for $137.91 as well as free shipping. I am wondering which radio has the better bang for the buck.

    pummeled participle of tenacious tenacity

One note of safety about PVC, (I do amateur fireworks making and this is a common rule among the amateur pyro community) it is somewhat brittle and if it shatters and you get hit by the shrapnel... The doctors have no way of finding it in your body as it's invisible under x-rays  May I...

    Inverted V angle

The reason I asked this is I have been playing around with a inverted V dipole. I made a very simple temporary (no BALUN) to experiment with. While tuning, I realized (same as I read) that the wires are relatively shorter than one would expect for 27.185 mHz (middle of the band.) At one point, I...

    Inverted V angle

Most literature on inverted V antennas gives a angle range of 60-120 degrees included. I have been searching, to no avail, what the angle's affect is on the impedance of the antenna. Does anyone out there know of a graph or chart of some sort that shows the relationship between angle and...

    questionable mod?

I was looking at the schematics on some of these old cbs I have and on a few of them the driver is directly coupled to the final. A few of the others there was a resistor. On all of them it was from the collector of the driver to the base of the final. One thing I noticed that puzzled me was the...

    questionable mod?

I guess I was just itching to do a little circuitry work. I kinda figured that this mod was a waste of time (I still remember a FEW things about amps lol) My soldering skills are still up to snuff, so no practice needed there. I've really only done one IF alignment ever and that was on a high...

    questionable mod?

C1969's are real :) and about $3 a pop. I looked up the spec sheet and even compared the load line to a final in one of my old cb's. This got me scratching my head over whether this mod would work or not.

    questionable mod?

    I kinda figured that.

    questionable mod?

I came across this on a website and, on the surface, looks plausible, but am wondering if it would really work. "There are a couple general items that you can do to get extra power out of almost any radio. First, replace the stock final with a 2SC1969 transistor. Second, locate the resistor...

    old Midland cb's

I was wondering how the old Midland cb's stacked up as far as quality. Models such as; 13-857, 13-882 ect. I'm asking this because I came across a bunch of old cb's in a "lot" of electronics stuff. I know most of them are only 23 channel, but am wondering if they would be worth the trouble of...

    Baluns, baluns, baluns

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I've just started back in on this hobby after a long time and I realize just how much I've forgotten. Hell, it's been a good 17 years since I last switched on my o scope. I'm probably going to have to go through all my test equipment with a can of Deoxit.
