Nice work, The starduster required installer to route the coax inside the mast pipe, this has the benefit of isolating the coax from the rf produced at the antenna.
If only transmitting with low power its might be OK not to isolate the coax.
glad to see someone building and having fun with...
Trc 457, Trc 458 great rigs shine on SSB.
Mic gain VR is on the board.
Easy freq expansion, one of the best receivers out there for 11 meters..
do not try to squeak every last watt out of the radio, keep AM deadkey low so you do not stress the components.
tons of info on WWW
I think cobra 139XL...
If thats the sound that you like then why not,
I would not bother with any power mods as the difference between a good tune with factory settings and the hot rodded rig in the video is not worth the stress on the components in my opinion.
the echo takes away from the audio but different...
Who makes the best two element quad?
If your able to use a tape measure and have the time you can make a great quad by yourself. Plenty of links online to help you get started
Need tuned input for 75 meters, need wrap coil for the PIL tuned tank and change load and tune caps .
if it has a good power supply and is constructed well it wont be to much problem to make it a mono bander on 75 meters
NE Florida to New Zealand. 100 watts 6 element home brew at 40 foot radio was cobra 2000. couple weeks ago around 8pm local time.
He was using a four element quad and 300 watts.
I put two wires up, one N/S other E/W used LB Cebik recommendation's from his top 5 favorite back yard antennas.
40 thru 10 meter doublet laddrline fed,
so one antenna is fed with 450 ohm ladderline
other is fed with rg6 quad .
I do not think it is 150 ohm impedance as the tune settings only...
Think out of the box.
I use RG6 quad coax, two pieces side by side as twin lead.
RG6 is cheap and available on line and at big box stores.
Twist the shields together use center conductor just like twinlead works great and can be run next to or through metal.
doesn't flap around in the wind like...
Hey Brandon
RC groups in yahoo etc etc has a lot of info on the servers converted to ps.
I do not know how to do it but sure that google can find some info.
good luck
Off the bat I would say try it and see?
Good question then you mentioned NVIS.
7mhz and lower in freq for NVIS.
If you at 55 ft AGL you are NVIS.
I have a 40/80 meter fab dipole at the shop 65 feet to feed point inverted V.
At house I have 40/80 meter dipole in a lazy U configuration feed point...
Few years back I built a 1/4 wl GP and it worked great, as you have noticed improved rx and tx. direct feed no loss in matching network.
I run my coax inside the mast pipe, think starduster type antenna install.
this shields coax from rf and I have not noticed any CMC , have friends running this...
