Thank you. Martin RF Supply has a Coaxial Dynamics 2500 watt element for much less than the Bird element. It's a tough call if I should buy the 2500 element for one use only or trust the 5000 watt Coaxial Dynamics which indicates 1800 PEP watts.
$417.00 sure is a lot of money for one element and I'll have to think about it. The dead-key out of the ten-pill is 200 watts which produces the 1800 PEP watts. Using the 25 watt per pill formula, a 250 watt dead-key would be the maximum dead-key out of the amp.
The 1.5 carrier from the radio produces only 16 PEP watts. The 1.5 watt dead-key drives the two-pill into the ten-pill which produces a 200 watt dead-key out of the ten-pill and 1800 PEP watts out. So far........so good.
I have several elements / slugs but I do not have a 2000 watt element / slug. I have a 5000 watt element / slug and it indicates 1800 PEP watts out of my 10-pill amp. How accurate is that? Should I have a lower watt element / slug to get an accurate PEP? $417.00 for a 2500 watt element.
Great info! I'm not computer savvy at all. As I slowly navigated to each menu item, I realized the radio has more functions than I would ever need. I was expecting to see watts but when the number values were displayed, I gave it a try and reduced the numbers until the Bird meter indicated 1.5...
I don't know how, but I did manage to navigate my way and reduce the Low Dead-Key and I'm done.
I sent an email to AnyTone several minutes ago requesting a cross-reference / translation chart.
My new radio works great with a 1.5 watt dead-key driving a 1 X 4 amp. Out of curiosity, I managed to access the Service Menu but has anyone managed to interpret the (confusing) digits and letters? Is there a cross-reference chart?
OK, thank you! That is comforting to know because I'm a "plug-n-play" type of guy and the thought of buying a new radio and having to do an upgrade would drive me nuts.
Maybe K-LINK has a Fan kit for the President radios. I installed the K-602 Fan Kit on my AT-5555 Plus and no stickers to be concerned about. Connect the wires to the Power Supply and life is good.
I re-entered the CB arena soon after I retired in 2019. Within two months I purchased a BIRD 43 with six (slugs) elements, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 and 5000 and a BIRD Model 4410A with a 4410-5, (Factor 10) element. I'd probably get sick if I located the receipts.
I am the original owner. With the exception of the 11-meter mod, the radio is naked and unmolested. Clarifier is factory locked and limiters have not been disturbed. RF Power: 2 - 10 watts. 2 Watts = 30 PEP watts. 10 Watts = 115 PEP watts. I do not tinker / disturb radios.
I am slowly slimming...
I received my new AT-5555 Plus set-up as I requested. Verified RF watts with my Bird Model 43 wattmeter with a 50 watt element / slug. 2 - 10 watt carrier. 2 watts = 20 PEP watts. 6 watts = 38 PEP watts. 10 watts = 48 PEP watts. I'm leaving the carrier set @ 6 watts. Modulation was factory-set...
My long-time personal USMC friends living in (way-up) Northern Maine are moving to Laconia, NH in September. They are getting back into the CB world and are seeking a decent and honest repair shop either in the lower area of Maine or in Central New Hampshire.
