Yes, I am an active member of WranglerForum.com. They all use the same basic setup of a Firestik mounted to the rear license plate frame, or the like. Very few people are looking to use their CB other than off road, never mind SSB'ing. I am looking for distance.
Edit: I do Psycho, it is a...
Hey guys.
For almost two years I have been running a Firestik II on the back of my Wrangler, mounted to a mast with a K-4A stud. I sanded the bottom of the mount point like I was told to do. Of course it is steel and rusts up fast, and I imagine that is not good for a proper ground.
I...
Well I did 500 miles with it yesterday and had nothing but good reports down the east coast, whereas before I got pretty much nothing. I used a 3' Lil Wil and was talking clearly to another guy from New Haven to some 40 miles south of NYC on Rt. 95. That is some 120 miles I figure.
I had...
Ya know, I really should have contacted Galaxy. I should have known better than to bring it to a shop instead of having warranty work done to it. His prices in general are quite high, but I will see tomorrow when I get it back if it was worth it.
Couple hundred bucks is meaningless in the...
I just talked to the fella for a while.
Let me try to explain a bit:
The service itself was a $20 part, plus $75 worth of labor.
The clarifer, peak and tune + SSB tuning, meter etc. was what I requested that was not included in the service. He did not call me because the service price was...
Hey everyone.
Last month I bought a DX-99v2 and did the conversion myself. I brought it to a guy here in Massachusetts who has been doing CBs for 30 years or so. I was having all sorts of problems on SSB...no one could hear me and I could not hear anyone.
So long story short, he did $250...
Conversion works fine. I have not had time to really test it out yet. The needle does not swing like my 979 does even with VR16 cranked. It stays in the middle pretty much.
Thank you very much. I have a few CB's, actually a Cobra 29 I could practice on that needs a final that it will probably never get.
Thanks for your help my friend.
Hey everyone. I am going to convert my DX-99v2 when it comes in next week or so. I know it is rather simple to do, but I have never touched a radio with a soldering iron before. I have a fine tip iron here at the office I will use.
I have installed a few car stereos etc. so I have...
Thanks fellas. I was wondering about the lack of a carrier signal and the modulation meter. I am new here as you can probably tell. Will most likely be looking for a place to do a proper tune on this thing. Suggestions welcome. Of course I'll search the forum too.
First I am wondering why the modulation meter does not move in SSB. It seems no one can hear me when I speak. This is a new radio and has not been touched on the inside.
Second, when the cover is off and the faceplate facing me which direction should I turn the pot to increase/decrease...
