Don't forget the Uniden 2830. I still have a 2510 and a Lincoln Chipswitched. The HXT 100 went to a new Ham many years ago and I sold the 2600. I liked the small chassis and addition of 12 meters with the chip conversion. 73 Jeff

    Trip Down Memory Lane

I had a couple of HTX 202 2 meter HT's that I beat the crap out , we used to take them camping all the time. Radio Shack had some decent radio stuff back in the day and the best part was that they were local. Often you knew the guy helping you at the counter. 73 Jeff

POC or whatever you call them

My only issue with these is the manufacturer has a habit of claiming the they are the end all to SHTF situations when the cell system is down they still work. No cell No radio 73 Jeff

Note that they have installed seals on the radio and it sounds like they are not going to honor the warranty if the seals are broken. See below https://simonthewizard.com/2026/01/27/video-albrecht-ae-5900-ham-cb-hf/ 73 Jeff

    40m mobile question

I had decent service from several ham stick antennas, and a couple old hustlers as well over the years. Loaded antennas are just that, loaded antennas. 73 Jeff

Why are Bird meters all the rage?

I never had a serious problem with any of my mfj stuff over the years, I knew that as soon as it arrived It'd have to check it over for proper assembly before even thinking about plugging it in. It was mandatory. 73 Jeff

Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

I have always leaned this as well, it's easy for me to imagine some kind of capacitive coupling going on with the mast and a thin insulated material on metal pipe. I tried to separate the mast completely. 73 Jeff

Imax 2000 with ground plane kit VS Maco 5/8, what is your experience?

Years ago I used a piece of solid 1.25 dia x 42" long fiberglass rod bolted on the top of mast and then the A-99 bolted on the fiberglass at the top. It was stock for sprayer arms. Choked it off below the connector with some coax,I never had any complaints about interference with it. Never used...
