The HXT 100 went to a new Ham many years ago and I sold the 2600.
I liked the small chassis and addition of 12 meters with the chip conversion.

I had a couple of HTX 202 2 meter HT's that I beat the crap out , we used to take them camping all the time.
Radio Shack had some decent radio stuff back in the day and the best part was that they were local.
Often you knew the guy helping you at the counter.

There are a couple CB nets in my area, Dennis has been doing the Old Tube Radio Network on Saturday nights for going on 40+years on channel 11 at 8pm Pacific,the longest running CB net on the west coast I am aware of.

My only issue with these is the manufacturer has a habit of claiming the they are the end all to SHTF situations when the cell system is down they still work.

Note that they have installed seals on the radio and it sounds like they are not going to honor the warranty if the seals are broken.

I never had a serious problem with any of my mfj stuff over the years, I knew that as soon as it arrived It'd have to check it over for proper assembly before even thinking about plugging it in.
It was mandatory.

I have always leaned this as well, it's easy for me to imagine some kind of capacitive coupling going on with the mast and a thin insulated material on metal pipe.
I tried to separate the mast completely.

Years ago I used a piece of solid 1.25 dia x 42" long fiberglass rod bolted on the top of mast and then the A-99 bolted on the fiberglass at the top.
It was stock for sprayer arms.
Choked it off below the connector with some coax,I never had any complaints about interference with it.
