Anyone else in the USA having problems ordering from AliExpress?

I have that problem here in NYS. NY bans all kinds of stuff from being shipped in, so I just use a friend's address over the border in PA and have it shipped there.

Are you sure it's the display segments and not the resistors.

    I Miss....

Right. Everyone around here back in the fifties and sixties also had the white dishes with the outer colored edge. I think blue was the most popular, but they also had green, yellow, and red. Everyone also had the Peyrex cookware. There was a Corning kitchenware store in downtown Corning.

    I Miss....

Ah, I understand. Corning, NY is only a few miles from here. Corning Glass headquarters are here, as well as their research department and a cellular-ceramic substrate plant. Many people in this area have worked for Corning over the years. It's the biggest industry in this area, but used to...

What do i really need to align a CB radio?

No one mentioned an audio generator. You're going to need one to align the transmit section.

    Modern vs vintage lab/test equipment.

Knowledge is the most important thing you need. Without that, you will never be able to do repairs quickly and efficiently or understand how to use the test equipment properly. There is a lot more to electronics than most people realize, thus the need for a formal education in it. The equipment...

    Cobra 139xlr

Could be quite a few things in a radio that old. The early Cobra 138XLR and 139XLR had some issues, and bulletins were put out on them for the fixes. They can be found on CBtricks. Since it's been going this long and all you have is an output issue, it could be the final rf transistor has failed...

Dak 9 or 10 front case screws

I thought that was the size they were supposed to be. Like I said, 36 threads per inch is an odd size, but that is what is in this radio. I suppose someone changed them out at one time.

Dak 9 or 10 front case screws

According to my thread gauge, they are #8-36x1/2" Phillips flat head. I'm not positive they are original, but all 8 are in it, and they thread in and tighten up just fine. 36 threads per inch is an odd size, but that is what these are. There is also a decorative finishing washer under each one...

    Trc457 alignment problem

It's not that the SAMS is a misprint. The way they do it works well. It's that whatever you are using to touch to TP6 is pulling the signal down so the frequency counter doesn't see it. You have to either have a very sensitive frequency counter or use a not contact type probe (sniffer).

    Midland 78-999 Service Manual

That radio has the same boards as the GE Superbase. These are from the Superbase so, they should be the same for the Midland. I noticed all the other adjustments are the same. Freq counter to TP2, ch 19, clarifier at mid position, AM/USB, CT201 for 10.24MHz. Freq counter to TP3, ch 19...

    Dissatisfied eBay customer ...

This reminds me of a post I saw somewhere about six months ago. The guy couldn't understand how a radio could work for 40 years with 10 volt caps in it when it was powered by 13.8 volts.

    I think I just learned a lesson....

Now that would make for a pretty funny meme. A guy passed out laying on the floor with a mike in his hand and his wife standing over him with her hands on her hips shaking her head, thinking what a moron he his.
