US WWDXers: Will you be getting a FM rig?

I am running two President Grant II radios at this time (one in the shack, one in my Nissan Xterra), which give me FM, along with 10m if I wanted to use 10m (but I have pretty much swore off amateur radio). Also running some KL-203’s behind these rigs. The Grant II is not the best radio out...

    Anyone bought from 88radio?

I just bought the KL-203P “two-fer” deal from 88Radio. I placed my order on Thursday, and received my order the following Monday, via the US postal service. And the KLs are the newer black case models (my current ones are the older red and blue cases). Pretty good service, 4 days (two of which...

FM coming to CB in the US ?

I have difficulty understanding these government-issued reports, but my interpretation of the reference to 2017 was when they lifted the 150 mile-contact limitation, and whatever else they did back then, Cobra’s request for FM mode was not authorized at that time. I think this says Cobra...

FM coming to CB in the US ?

I’ve been busy with other stuff, so haven’t visited the forum in a while. Have this been discussed yet ? Petitions for Reconsideration of Part 95 Personal Radio Services Rules Report and Order https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-374114A1.pdf

    Radioddity DB20-G

Pretty much a rebadged Anytone AT-779UV. I’ve been running the Anytone in my wife’s car for our GMRS repeater and I am happy with the performance. About 19 watts out on my cheap SureCom SWR/power meter. The Anytone has some a separate software app that allows you to change the configuration of...

    Sonwatcher

According to his QRZ lookup, Ron (Sonwatcher) is no longer active on radio. He states he kept his license active, but does not engage in the hobby.

    larsen mobile antennas for cb

I ran a Larsen NMO27B on an NMO trunk lip mount on my wife’s 2003 Monte Carlo SS for a number of years back in the early/mid 2000s. Had a Uniden Grant LT radio mounted in her vehicle, and it worked well. Our farthest contact from the base to her car was around 30 miles. She even used the radio...

Chameleon Vertical Antenna - 10-80 Meters

This thread has been running for over a year so want to give an update on my Chameleon MPAS 2.0. Sometime in late summer 2020 in put my Chameleon MPAS 2.0 up as a “permanent” installation in my yard. I am using Chameleon’s ground stake Hybrid Mini transformer Mil EXT 2.0 lower whip section...

    Yaesu FT-891, your thoughts please

I had two 891s (one in the shack, one in the mobile). They are a good radio for the price (especially when they are under $600). However... I sold them because I did not care for the menu operation of the radio. I also don’t care for Yaesu’s convoluted firmware update method that they have...

FCC should just open up 11meters as a Citizens experimental band.

This is what I would like to see on CB in the U.S. Since the UK already has the allocation for the narrow band FM freqs up around 27.6-27.9, why not allocate it in the U.S.? the equipment already exists, and the emission mode (NFM) is required on HF anyway, so come on FCC...get off yer arses...

GMRS resurgence in the making ???

I am seeing a lot of new GMRS radios hitting the market. I guess the manufacturers are anticipating a resurgence of interest in GMRS with the about-to-be adopted $35 fee ? Wouxun has introduced several new HTs and a mobile, and I even got an ad from Radioddity announcing the Baofeng UV-5X...

    (Mobile) Lincoln II +

Bought a Lincoln II+ when they came out a few years ago (had an L-II v.3 before and liked it, wanted the 12m option of the +). Used it for a few years off and on, and sent it to Mikes Radio Repair for the audio mod that he was doing. Got it back and used it for a while, then moved on to another...

    New Antenna up, FT8 fun

Hey, at least it’s not being done through the internet like the VOIP modes. You are using a real radio, an antenna, and actually sending a signal out. The VOIPers are actually asking for QSLs via QRZ for VOIP contacts ??? “CQ all ip addresses...CQ all ip addresses” And with the RF weak signal...

    GMRS Midland MXT115

I turned those pots on my MXT-115. The lower left pot adjusts frequency. The upper one might be deviation, but I could not see or hear much difference. I don’t have a deviation meter so I can’t say for sure. No change to power output, so it’s not that. It could possibly be a deviation adjustment...

    GMRS Midland MXT115

I am also very disappointed in the Midland MXT mobiles being narrowbanded. It would not be an issue if you are just using them to talk between other MXT radios, but I have a GMRS repeater and the narrowband audio from the MXT through a wideband repeater is considerably lower in volume. I will...

    The New FTDX10 Compact HF/50MHz 100W SDR

I have to agree that Yaesu...NEW Yaesu...rigs are mostly garbage when compared to the quality of their older radios. This deterioration of quality and customer relations, seems to coincide with Yaesu being separated from Vertex by Motorola. Now to be fair, the customer service reps in...

    Xiegu G90 amplifier

I don’t do facebook, but a ham friend sent me a screenshot from the FB POTA page, where someone posted that they blew up their PAX100 amplifier pretty quickly after inaugural use. I don’t know what finals that amp uses, but they state in their advertisement that “if needed, the final...

    Yaesu FT-847 vs old FT-726R

I ran an FT-847 for many years. Not my favorite rig for HF work, as many have noted the harsh white noise on receive, but it was ok enough. Just looking through old eQSL cards last night, I was reminded that I worked Russia and Australia on 10m from the east coast of the USA with the 847, so you...

XIEGU G90 - feedback from long term users

I have owned my G90 for year and a half. While I don’t have that many hours of transmit time on it, I have monitored the bands quite a bit, and I am really happy with the radio. The screen is bright enough that I can see it easily in sunlight when I have operated outdoors. Since I do dial...

    DMR is fine by me.

I forget about that feature (this radio has so many features), but I did try and it is still too loud for me in the shack. Not an issue with the amplified speaker with it’s volume control.
