ha ha ha. yes! I agree so much. True. true.
the way the 27 MHz RF wiring is done. all them input switches for
LOW MED HIGH the "v" variable models. all is bad.
all is wrong. so messed up....
I can't believe what I see.
for example, them RM Italy "linear" amps. (no bias...
so do you have the AM or SSB button pushed in.?
if your amp still matches the schematic.
measure input SWR with one or both pushed in.
this changes the RF input network. I have a customer's TS DX-250
that I posted here about, and I keep both AM and SSB switches
pushed in, and the input match...
hey - BC Coyote
I can tell lots of "sea stories" stories.
after I drink some beers, talking with the guys at the
sports bar. lots of stories. I can tell. one after another!
it was a blast. being a Merchant Marine back then.
with one company, 1986 (Crowley) I had good living conditions...
yes, I see now. no AMC adjust VR12 on the Madison. yes VR12 on the 2000.
I usually turn them off. ALC and AMC. I don't like how they
hang in briefly, after they kick in. certain capacitors can be removed
to prevent that. but I adjust the mic gain properly and talk.
but when the radio...
bump. bump.
it has been cold here a few weeks.
but warmed up today. warmer here than
in Miami FL right now.
yes, saw some ants on the ground near my
trash cans.
gonna be warm for Mardis Gras Feb. 17
.
inquiring minds here want to know what your malfunction
is with that Madison radio?
I have worked on several of these Uniden boards now,
and am taking a liking to them.
I had a Madison a few weeks ago, with the carrier osc
xtal X4 falling out off the board due to the corrosive glue.
yes, and SuperLid mentioned. that also.
looks just like a RM Italy KL-300
both have no bias on the RF output transistors,
and both claim to be "linear amplifiers"
maybe adding a feedback network, and bias circuit,
then that little amp can be made to work good.
tell us more... what amp? what are you trying to do exactly.
on them Palmar / Texas Star type amps I make a good single
input with some resistors. match to the driving radio
for about 3.5 watts drive.
I thought I would chime in, and brag (as I usually do!)
I ain't trading! with any of you!
I was just walking around outside in a tee-shirt
while drinking a cold beer.
but I just got a cell phone text message from electric
utilities company about the coming
cold air mass, that it may get below...
on them there RCI/Galaxy boards, I would just take my
scope probe at "X1" setting to the case of that 10.695 crystal
and adjust L18/19/20 having the output of scope to my freq counter.
using the oscilloscope as an amplifier to feed my external counter.
(I have all old (like me!) primitive...
the pre-amp is burned out since somebody connected the RF out
from their radio to the "antenna" of that amp to see if it works
like that. it did not work, so then they started flipping switches,
and it still did not work. so then they swapped the coax cables
on the back of that amp to see if...
OK, on the history.
that schematic I uploaded says to add the negative feedback to them.
this one does not have that, but
This amp here has 5 Toshiba 2SC2879's in it.
obviously been worked on, big heavy red/black 12V power wires.
and some good soldering.
it has potential! hopefully jut the...
I have a Palomar Elite 600 to work on.
told it keys up, but no RF out.
I downloaded the attached schematic and took a quick glance at it,
and noticed a bias circuit. a "quick glance"
I thought, "cool! this amp is worth working on!"
so keyed up the amplifier with a resistor to ground at the...
the radio is not turned on!
the filament on that big tube is not lit up.
oh, it's comedy. there is more to this scene.
(click here) Herman Munster on Ham Radio
here is a tip on troubleshooting modulation problems
in these radios.
there is a built-in audio generator.
the "roger beep"
strong roger beep audio is fed in before that
mentioned double op-amp.
usually on these radios, the AMC and ALC is turned off,
and/or the components cut out. You hear...
there are some scenes in them cool old TV shows.
someone can chime in here if they remember.
maybe Outer Limits, Twilight Zone, The Munsters,
Adams Family, etc.. saying they are using "Ham Radio"
but I always noticed the "this is not Morse Code" used.
back when that movie Independence Day...
.
yesterday I repaired a Uniden board (Madison/Cobra 2k)
had no signal from the carrier oscillator circuit.
the crystal had a glob of "that glue" on the side of it,
and it all fell off the board when I touched it.
I had a RCI/Galaxy radio recently with the same problem,
at the carrier...
in case you don't have them
HR2510 modifications.
hopefully you just notice bad soldering as I have.
That happened to me on some other radios, after the
"MARS MOD" has been done to them.
