I have a Magnum Omegaforce S45 in working condition, selling as-is for parts/repair. Transmit level is around 30-35 watts, receive seems to be very good. Meter functions test ok, but I haven't tested every microprocessor function. Physical condition is fair to good, with the face having only...
Hearing the beep through the talkback on AM and not on SSB is not unusual for that model. Just check with another radio on SSB that the beep is coming through.
Rigol is about the cheapest lab-grade brand I've found. I use a DSA815, found on Ebay for about $700. Anything you find for $300 (or even $400), will likely be 40+ years old, or not of the grade you need. That said, you can get some good deals on older HP mainframe analyzers if you look and be...
I have a 2510 in tested and working condition that comes with an original Astatic D104M Minuteman mic. The mic still has the original plastic barrel-style battery hold INTACT, with a fairly fresh lithium battery installed. The radio's physical condition is good, and all button functions have...
Hard to believe this thread is still alive after 8 years! Its been some time since I had to un-whack a radio, so I guess its probably been some time since he's whacked one. I CAN say that whackpack 2 wasn't really "different" than 1.
I've run the new SL41 for a little while now on my shop radio, and I've gotten nothing but good reports from it. I'm pleased with its construction, and the tone quality. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into this microphone! I, too, look forward to seeing what the reincarnated Palomar...
I'll chime in with my thoughts. I liked the original 497 a lot better than this new version, for one main reason - the AMC control POT is unbelievably hard to set just right. Its almost as if the proper POT value was multiplied by twenty, leaving a tiny little window the size of half a hair...
Agreed. I make it a point to make sure it won't pull more than 40 amps on SSB with HARD modulation. One of the things I do is make sure the main amp bias's are set for no more than 4 volts (make sure the bias level for each quad is within .1 volts of the other, as well)
I don't generally have that problem (low AM modulation) with the 636, with a very few exceptions (the new Uniden 680/880/980 radios). I find that if the radio is properly tuned, the 636 works well. I do run into the odd instance where teh customer's voice just doesn't go well with the 636 for...
I didn't even bother to read all the replies, just going to add my quick 2 cents. For transfomer-modulated radios, you will generally be limited to the 4:1 ratio, since there's no practical way (that I know of anyway) to add negative peak compression to a transformer-modulated radio...
Another nice application of external digital control to a PLL chip! I first used the printer port from a computer to do that: www.dtbradio.com/cbcomp.html. My first prototype used DOS-based software and had a scanner function. I later wrote Windows software that dropped the scanner and added...
I agree that the 8v problem is the priority. WHat I would do it remove all load from the output of the 8-v regulatr, and then reload it with a 1k-ohm resistor only. Then check for 8v. If still low, then replace the zener and small C945 transistor nearby. I've seen both fail on occasion.
My choice for size would be the 510 with a good quality echo mic. I probably wouldn't even bother tuning the radio, since it won't tune much higher than stock anyway Turn the internal output level of the mic up to around 30-60 percent, set the echo, and people will think you're running a...
If you are using the factory mount (which actually has decent ground), you don't need a long-shaft antenna. 10K's are very good antennas, but over-priced in my opinion. The Tram Big-Cat series test about the same, as do the Road Ranger antennas (Road Ranger out-did the 10K in at least one test...
I have to disagree. About 15 - 20 years ago, I ran a DX350 mobile as a base unit, using an RV power supply at about 14.5 volts. One day I was talkign along and noticed I was showing quite a bit more output than usual. I didnt think anything of it other than "cool!!", and kept on talking. After a...
Be suspicious of 2SC2999's that are currently available. I've been the victim of a couple bad batches. It seems like the original parts are being replaced by cheap copies that aren't as good. Can't say that's the case for all sources. As for your continuing problems, the functioning PA ruled...
I was just made aware of an Ebay listing for the Cobra 29 LX which is a verbatim copy of my own listing (with the exception of the price - this guy is claiming to sell the 29 LX for $39). The listing in question is located at Cobra 29 LX 40 Channel CB Radio | eBay. The listing from which this is...
