thks Nomad..theres a fellow around me that has a room full of vintage radios and sells for cheap..Im considering to make an offer for similar sbb radios and pull out that 1969 if I find it within.
what 23 channel radio carry the 1969?
Well, after couple of days servicing car audio, back to what I strive to learn!
Ok, did Handy's 170 cap...and I got..drum roll...tada!
1 watt TX AM deadkey!
Now you may say pff but for me thats a huge achievement! this radio was dead, DEAD!
after tuning the TX related transformers and inductors...
Finally did this one! was a trade for tiny mobile cb..
This bad boy was a wreck..blown power supply, blown final, RX upto ch 32..
Fixed all that, replaced the 4 amp PS trans for a 10 amp rate and a new final..
5.5 deadkey swinging upto 19 pep..
The handset needs a new cable, it causing feedback...
Thks Handy! As I was looking at your post and preplanning the op, I found several ceramic caps on the radio that wasnt supposed to be there, most were too high..I changed them according to the manual parts list except 1, its supposed to be a 470pf but I only had a 390pf on hand..
Now, Im seeing...
update!
the silkscreen placement sign on the board is wrong..its flipped..so switched the TR and now I get meanful voltage although not the SM values..getting 1.3 base, 8.3 collector and 0.62 emmiter, TX AM mode ch 5...test point for driver and final currents are not showing anything but I do...
The Emperors are on hold until I get new drivers and finals..
Im working with a TRC451 which was given to me and it was really messed up..so far I have fixed the RX section pretty much accurate possible with no osc, just a sdr and a TinySa as a signal generator..
this radio has a missing choke...
well the saga goes on..the 1945 is fake too lol..wasnt getting power..installed that to a tester midland no dice either..so just out of curiosity I installed a 1237 to the Emp and got 2 watts right off the bat..But current at the test point kept rising also from 0.25 to 1.7 and rising..I know...
I see..I wonder what would happen long term with R258( 330ohm) at the NFB..mine was open, I had to use a 380 ohm because I dont have a 330 at hand right now..
Bob, Ill let you know when I get the other 5010 fixed..
Nomad, thanks a lot..and also to Sp5st..
As suggested by Sp5t, I used a 1306 pulled from a Cobra, since the 2166 that was installed mostly its fake..so far I got a stable 50ma with the 1306, (0.900 amp at the DC connector)..also you see...
got this resolved..retuned a vr at the pll board..nice stable modulated signal at the collector of the driver..
But doesnt reach 50ma at the test points..its or very low or very high..
getting tired of this radio..
I have a TRC 449 that has the same test points bridge..thinking about comparing current idle and activity at the test points, to see if both act similar
could be..although it was bought from a shop, not online..
In case I get a genuine, and it happens again, what should be checked? there was a bit burned 100 ohm bias resistor, and I replaced it for a new one
Hi..
I installed only the driver 2166 which is new, and tested current on the test points..it goes from 0.30 to 1.3 and I stopped there, was getting to hot...all trimpots are adjusted accordingly by the service manual..any suggestions?
