At my QTH, 80 / 40 is high noise as well. High enough that I never bothered to install any antennas.

I still have an Alpha Match that I use on occasion on 20/40 with a MFJ 17' collapsible element. For 80, you need a wire as well and of course a tuner. Success is subject to band conditions.

I too would say a dipole antenna, but with a caveat. Inverted Vee dipole would be easier to tune and hide from the HOA police. You will get good performance with the dipole as well.

Homer, yes 20 metres. RM, no not 50 watts, was running about 25 watt. Prolongs the batteries in the cold.

Last 3 week I have been running 12 watts SSB, that's it, that's all. Been leaving my 50 watt amp at home. Signal reports are down some but I'm still making numerous contacts. My last time out with the amp I had 24 contacts in 17 minutes with 9 from EU.

KX3 and a p50 amp are a good combo. I have hundreds of contacts with my KX2 and p50. Nov 7 I was getting 59 reports from Europe while activating a SOTA summit.

DX engineering is my source as well.

He was using a 9:1 without a counterpoise. To me that is very problematic from my experience. IMHO a counterpoise would reduce it some.
