Glad you got that figured out! Even with biasing slightly high, you should not have seen that much runaway current so quickly.

Glad someone posted that question! I've often figured there was a special tool for that, but since I never had any problem using pliers to do it, it was never a big deal. Now that I've seen the tool, I'm probably going to expand my tool kit.

Cobra used to have a repository of all their schematics on their website, but I can't find the link anymore. I've contacted them to see if it still exists.

You will want to document signal levels at different points in the transmit circuit chain when the radio is operating properly, then compare them to the ones you see when it falls off. This should narrow the problem down quite a bit.

I confirmed that the last item on that was a result of a database that hasn't been updated from as far back in some cases as 2008. However, the correct number is not far off, lol. I was able to work out a compromise on cost with DAS to avoid the hassle of a return, so semi-happy ending here.
