I did relocate it to the back of the radio on the chassis so its now more sturdy. I did add two of the 10nf ceramic caps near each capacitor. Radio still seems happy. :) Thanks again!

Appreciate the feedback. I do have a 2nd 1000uf 35v cap off the clarifier potentiometer. I will see if I got some 10nf caps to put along the electrolytics. It looks heavy, but the part alltogether was very light weight. The board itself held the legs good, but I dont think it would break off...

Now I am curious about this.... As I now have a TRC-458 sitting on my desk in front of me... It sounded ok on the air I suppose but now that has me wondering. Did the TRC-449 fall the same fate?!?!

Appreciate the input! It all kinda goes over my head, but now I realize that a simple 7808 will not be up to the task... In all honesty its ok on the air, but if one really wanted to keep it stable and not move between receive and transmit, that circuit design you drew up would be ideal!

Hello, It really didn't dawn on me until yesterday when i did the clarifier unlock on an old Realistic TRC-451. I have a Uniden Grant XL under my desk with its clarifier unlocked as well. When I go to transmit on one radio, and adjust the clarifier on the other, I can get it right on. But...

Never knew the difference until I heard it first hand. RM Italy 203P vs the Palomar Skipper is a big difference in SSB quality. Crackly SSB audio coming out of the RM Italy vs the crisp clean audio coming out of the Palomar Skipper.

I didn't realize it got the mic like that. :/ A shame... I at least recapped the 1 HTX-100, and removed that glue inside the radio. There was some fixes for the radio at the mic audio. Something about removing a ceramic cap, and changing out a capacitor, and using a resistor where you remove...

I have two of them. It seems that one has to basically yell into the microphone to get it to actually modulate. :) Though its younger brother the HTX-10 works great. I may have to bring it back out and try a different mic. (Maybe the one it had was broken.)

My elmer who is SK since 2022 would be proud of you for mentioning that motorized screwdriver antenna. That is what he ran on his mobile setup in his truck and got great results. He ran a Kenwood TS-480HX. I miss talking to him on 2 meters... :/
