AM? I got them off of two junk FM radios at a garage sale (total cost; .25c). The radios didn't even have AM or I'd have taken the trimmer capacitor as well.
Ouch! RG-213 is expensive hehe. I'll stick with the RG-58/U for now unless I need to run a longer cable or put more than 15 watts into it. Thanks for letting me know about that though, as I had no knowledge of RG-213 before you said something about it.
Wow, thanks so much guys. I want to reflect on so much that was said, but really no need to. I need to take this new knowledge and just run with it. I suppose I just wanted some confirmation that I wasn't doing something totally wrong or ineffective before I even started on it.
Some time...
Wall is wood with some rubberized coating on the inside. Shingles on the outside. The antenna would be about 5 ft away from it... but I have a lot of room to work with and can move the antenna anywhere on that roof, it's just not as high up anywhere else (hard to explain).
edit; let me be clear...
Hey Marconi, thanks for the insight.
To reflect; I haven't experienced anything yet. I'm just kind of scoping things out to see where I could put the ground plane. I do have a mast in place that has an old TV antenna at the top. Before I went through the trouble of installing the ground plane...
Hey thanks W5LZ. Another question if I may;
The mounting pole is metal. Should I lop half of it off and change it out with PVC? Or is the metal affecting it only related to the roof surface?
There is a rain gutter on the edge of that roof by the way. The ground is mostly dirt. The air is...
What effect would this arrangement have on a ground plane antenna? Is is making the signal more directional? Accounting for loss? Any thoughts or suggestions for mounting such an antenna on a sloped surface?
Or is it fine?
Thanks in advance to all the experts here that have helped me with so much.
Thanks for that insight, QRN. Now are AM loops different than magnetic loops or is it the same thing? Thanks in advance.
I was thinking that if the power was that high to produce paint bubbling, heck I should line a whole bunch of them up and find a way to harness that power lol. Maybe run my...
This seems silly to me;
"It should be noted that a high potential is present across the gap, and even at QRP levels can be dangerous. Certainly with higher powers, this situation can be LETHAL. I would personally not recommend the use of such a loop in the shack because in my opinion even...
Oh for sure. Yeah at first I just wanted to listen. But after one day of having the radio, I felt the need to talk. In any case, I've posted a video of the antenna at work.

Hey thanks! Great site.
Question though, the pf range is a bit off on those. One I've seen specifically for AM (mediumwave) listed 10-265.
Part 464 has 45-280
Part 465 has 75-380
Are these out of range for AM tuning? I'm still learning about this stuff.
Thanks a lot, I'll try it out in those bands and check there.
Playing with it more and getting it by a window, I tuned to 3030khz which produced a local Hispanic shortwave station with the signal meter maxed out. I removed the clip and nothing but static! Awesome.
For testing, I'm using...
Hey folks, anyone know where to get some cheap trimmer capacitors online for AM (mediumwave) tuning? Something small and in the 10-265pf range there or abouts?
I found one place but they want $3.95 a piece for tiny ones. Was curious if someone would know where else to look (other than taking...
Went to Lowe's with a buddy of mine. My buddy knows pretty much nothing about antennas, despite the fact that he makes wifi biquads and is a powerseller on ebay because of it. He knows how to make them, but doesn't understand really how they work, nor does he make any other antennas.
In any...
Understood, I was curious about the company or experiences with their equipment. They have lots of products, I just happened to list that one (perhaps a poor choice on my part). I realize the FCC cracks down on pirate stations, especially those on the FM band. I also understand that a NAL is...
