I wont get into a pissing match but you NEED to run the ground wire from the boom.A rotor doesnt make a good ground.
The whole idea is to give the lightning a better path than your coax.Which is a better conductor?
1 Magnesium
2 Aluminum
3 Copper
So what is the best path.Copper from the...
I use welding lead with a large copper eyelet mounted to the center boom clamp and run it down to the top of the tower where I have #6 copper ground wire running down to the ground rods below. It is a good idea to solder all connections.
I use at least three 8 ft ground rods in a triangle around...
Thanks man.I am in the path. But it wont be hurricane strength this far inland. We are expecting tons of rain though.Hopefully no tornados.
I am off I 59 between I 20 and I 30.

Yes I have.In my opinion you cant have to many grounds and dont skimp on the size. The lightning will seek the best path to ground. The more appealing your ground system is to lightning the better.I have 48 ground rods on my property.
The best way to get rid of TVI is height, good coax and most of all grounds.
I have 48 ground rods on my property and probably 450 ft of #6 & 8 copper ground wire. Also use welding lead from the booms of my beams down to the top of the tower where it connects to the #6 copper.
Nomad makes a good point but if you dont mind replacing the 1 amp it will work fine. They will both protect the radio.
For customers I can see why he uses the heavier diode.
I usually have 1,3 and 6 amp around.Mainly use the 3s and 6s in amplifier power supplies.73
Ive never had a problem with mine either but I run stock voltage. If your running 18 to 20 volts it doesnt take a lot of change to pop a transistor.
I do know when it lays back it has to hurt your transmit.Changes your radiation pattern and not for the better.Someone needs to make a heavier 102...
Yep and that is the biggest advantage of all.Great price.
Hey if you guys want to design an antenna why dont you just make a slightly bigger aka stiffer 102.Take care of the one problem this antenna has.
Maybe put a big corona ball on the end with disco lights so it will catch all us...
At least until someone proves me wrong.Hey it was good enough for Andy and Mr. One Bullet AKA Barny.
Seriously there are a lot of good antennas out there but when height is not a problem its hard to beat a 102.
The only disadvantage I have noticed over the years is they lay down to much when...
I like aluminum. Have run them all over the years and my two favorite verticals were the SigmaIV and the I 10K.
The Imax is great if you want a quick simple install and wide bandwidth but I still prefer my big aluminum I 10K.
I have both up now and the I 10K wins on transmit and...
