Got my radios in today and I really like the service from GiJoes. All I did was convert the radios to CB and that's it for now. Any tricks I can do to this radio besides turning up the modulation VR's?
I have always liked Superstar 121's since I was just starting out in CB radio at age 18. Now I am 32 years old(still a newbie) and moved on to just using a non-export Cobra 29. Over the years I have bought Connex 3300's(owned one), Galaxy 33's(owned 2 and had best reports 1 radio did 30...
Yea Switchkit, it has a cap/resistor mod. It does around 1.5 watts and peaks at 19 or so. Really would like to try putting in a 1969 final but I dont think I have enough skills.
I was thinking in the same lines as you, Switchkit. How else would you turn the deadkey down on a Cobra to let's say 1.5 to 2 watts and still get decent forward power.
Same to you guy! Switchkit just out of curiousity for future reference does the 2sc1969 really increase the power of a 29? Also, what other mods have to be done in order for it to work? Happy Holidays
Thanks so much Switchkit. I think it was a bad joint cause I went back over both resistors and the radio started working right. Just like you stated, no power increase whatsoever.
I recently picked up a cobra 29 for 20 dollars from a co-worker. The radio worked good until I attempted a power mod I found. 1. Change R58(10 Ohm) to a 2.7 Ohm.
2. Change R123(1 ohm) to a .47 Ohm.
3. Re-tune L14,L13,L12 for maximum forward power.
I had no deadkey or swing after I repaced...
Thanks guys. I ended up getting rid of the General Lee for 170 dollars on Ebay. It was just too bulky for my Honda CR-V. I bought me a Cobra 25 this week. Tech says it does 4.5 swinging 18. Is that too much drive for a Texas Star 400?
Thanks Mr. Heat, I had heard from a local tech that he could put one in for 25 dollars but suggested I could go 5 dollars cheaper and just get a power mic.
As bad as I hate, I decided to take out my General Lee radio and possibly put it up for sale on Ebay. It's alittle too big for my small SUV. I want to get a smaller unit, got my eyes on a Cobra 25 LTD classic. I only use Ch.19 for trips and talking to some locals on Ch.40 all citizen band. I...
My General radio is set for a (9 watt) dead-key on high power setting. My question is to you folks, is my carrier set too low on high power too low for maximum potential (swing)? I am running an amp on low power setting(3 watts) and wondering if I set my carrier higher for high power setting...
Hey steelworker I had a Connex 3300(single final) before my General and I asked my local tech about that. He told me it was too much and just to buy a dual final. I sold my Connex for the General.
Thanks a million switchkit, Me and my friend have spent hours looking for this info. We found the info you were talking about(channel conversion) on CB Tricks, fine site! When I was talking to him lastnight he said something about a limiter clipping, is that possible on this radio?
Hi all, I joined this forum a couple of weeks ago and have some questions about a particular unit(Superstar 121 mobile radio). my close pal recently purchased this unit and was wanting to attempt peaking/tuning. He has some experience from tuning a Connex and two Galaxy mobiles so maybe you can...
Hi all, I just joined rcently and was interested in finding some info on the Superstar 121 radio. A close pal of mine recently purchased a used unit and doesn't want to spend anymore money like taking the radio for a tech to peak/tune. He is familar with other export units(from notes and...
