I bought one of those circa 1977. IIRC, I paid $75 for it BNIB (it was l/t $100 at any rate). Still have it, still works, despite having been senselessly abused in it's early years, only thing I ever had to do to it was replace a relay.
(and now back to your regularly scheduled thread...........)
Good word, "pummeling", not used enough IMHO. :ROFLMAO:
But you have a valid point, freakin' golf balls sting, I've been hit on the course before and that would've been at a fraction of the velocity. My first question to him after I heard he'd gotten busted was "How much had you been...
The gentleman who turned me onto the Spudgun Tech link, HAD the golf-ball firing version using the propane metering system, it worked flawlessly. I say "HAD" because the Gestapo confiscated it when they showed up during an afternoon of daylighting the side of his neighbor's...
Pretty sure I heard somewhere that the reason Marines were on-board Naval ships was so the officers would have somebody to dance with.:ROFLMAO:
True enough. 70 mph on dry land is a yawn, 70 mph on water is edge of seat. I start getting nervous around 45 and start wishing for a bigger boat. :ROFLMAO:
Actually, yes. They work surprising well for what they are, I've gotten good audio reports using one. It uses an electret cartridge, I figured that at the very least it would be a simple test bed for the myriad of electret elements on the market today. There was a thread started here previously...
Back in the 70's, the King of the big stations locally had a Tram Titan 2, Turner Plus 2, a 250 watt tube amp (brand unknown), running into stacked 4-element yagis on a 50 ft. tower. He also had an Antenna Specialists Super Magnum 1/2 wave as his general purpose monitoring omni. Back then...
I'd have to go with either a Browning Golden Eagle or a Cobra 2000 GTL, Turner Plus 3 mic, and twin 40 ft. towers. One with a AstroPlane as an omni, and on the other a 4 element quad with switchable polarity. Nothing really fancy or exotic, just proven performers.
Exactly. Case in point, my one local who considers himself "King of the Band" never misses an opportunity to tell me how "mudducky" I sound whenever he catches me on the air talking to my base from 30+ miles away. He prefers the sound of his radios cranked wide open and considers splattering and...
Aha! A Firesign Theater quote, circa 1970, IIRC. Some of the memories from that era are a bit fuzzy..... But that's okay, I think we're all Bozos on this bus.
First base was an 8 channel Hallicrafters CB-3, Turner +2, and Antenna Specialists Super-Magnum half wave. There's been a lot of bases that have come and gone since then, but without a doubt the one I had the most fun with was a Cobra 142GTL, D-104, Firebird 500 amp, and A-99. A lot of worldwide...
That's just one of the things you have to tip-toe around and refer to it as "that big auction website". :ROFLMAO:
I have a couple LipZipper amps, not only can I not mention "LipZipper" without it being censored automatically (they were sold mainly through the now-defunct Redneck's Forum, who...
If the old "tube watts versus pill watts" discussion is going to start up again, let me know. I'll make some popcorn and get a good seat in front.:ROFLMAO:
