I have a class III hitch on my Jeep. I thouht roof mounted would be the best way to go, but my Wilson 5000 magnet mount is always wacking stuff now!
If I mounted a 10K on the roof would it unscrew easily? say if I was to go off-road and needed the clearance?
I'm not even sure how a 10K...
I was hoping I could get away with the shortest shaft length possible. My Jeep has a 6" lift and 33's
I had no idea the shaft length effected the tuning of the antenna.
What would be the best way to mount a 10K ? It would be going on a Jeep Cherokee, I'm thinking about getting one of those instead of the Wilson 5000 magnet mount I'm currently running. I'm adding a AMPower 3-pill and I think I may want a better antenna that might also be hard mounted.
What...
I would opt for the mirror mount, that way you could run a larger and better antenna, like a Wilson 2000 trucker. A 1' or 2' fiberglass antenna ain't gonna do squat for you.
Well.....I picked up a Wilson 5000 from Multec Communications ( http://www.rfwiz.com/ ) for $68
I've been so busy at work I have'nt had time to installo it yet, hopefully this weekend it'll be all setup. :D
I was thinking about getting a Galaxy DX959 for one of my other rides. I called one shop and they tried to talked me out of getting one. :?
I never owned a Galaxy radio but I always thought they were good radios...........What's the general opinion about the DX959 around here?
OK, what's the best way to tune my new WIlson 5000 when I get it? Can I use the meter on the radio to do it or should I get one of the SWR meters that my local Rat Shack has to do the job properly? Thanks again!
I can't wait to get it! I'll probably run it right out of the box for now because I'm so anxious to get back on the air. Right now I don't have any antenna to use for my radio. I sold the K40 I had so I could get something better.
Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I see alot of stuff around here about the 10K. Maybe I'll do a 10K for daily duty and keep a small back-up antenna for 'wheelin? :naughty
I had a older Cobra 29LTD w/soundtracker, I had it peaked and tuned by a local shop and ran a K40 magnetic mount antenna. That setup worked really good for me and I never had any problems with the radio.
I have since moved on and up to a General Lee  (and am working a a new...
Thanks, I am open to all info, experience or suggestions. I do take my Jeep off-road ocassional so I think a magnetic mount would be the best way. I was looking at the Wilson 1000's but was thinking about the Wilson 5000 because I may run a amp somewhere in the future. The 102" whip just...
I just picked up a General Lee, I guess this is coinsidered a export radio? I have heard very good things about them on the interent and from other truckers.
What's the opinion around here of these radios?
I may plan on running a amp sometime in the future, what might be a good amp for...
