90% of online receivers are a joke

I run four KiwiSDRs connected to an 80m-10m off center fed dipole at about 65 ft. But yes I agree, a large number of them run loops or other inefficient antennas. Part of why this is is because the loop antennas are heavily promoted in conjunction with the SDRs. The other part is many people...

    Non-typical repeater application.

Nope, I have 70+ ft granite hills between transmitter and receiver. At 375 yards I would look at issues with your transmitter and/or antenna. That distance should be no problem for the DA transmitter. 30 ft. dirt mounts would easily knife edge refract a VHF signal to the other side. The simplest...

    Non-typical repeater application.

I'm not quite 100% sure I understand what you are trying to do or the distances involved. I own several Dakota Alert MURS Alert devices and the detectors all have an external antenna jack so that you can increase the range by adding a better antenna. All you need at those individual locations...

    Public KiwiSDR receivers available

Hmmm, just tried it and it worked for me. I did change the link on QRZ to go to the SDR's blog. Thanks! - Rob

    Public KiwiSDR receivers available

For your wintertime listening pleasure, the session timeouts and maximum daily times on my KiwiSDRs have been increased. On receivers 1, 2, and 3 there is a 3 hour per session timeout and a 10 hour per day maximum per person. On receiver 4 there is a 6 hour per session timeout and a 18 hour...

    Public KiwiSDR receivers available

The WebSDRs tend to be set up for specific ranges of frequencies and are not continuous coverage of the HF bands like the KiwiSDR. The flip side of that is that the WebSDRs can handle more users simultaneously than the KiwiSDRs can.

    Public KiwiSDR receivers available

The KiwiSDRs are probably the easiest to set up. A large number of the current receivers online do not have great antenna systems on them (although this is slowly changing). If you have the ability to attach an online receiver to a good antenna in a good location then that would be a great...

    Public KiwiSDR receivers available

I've upgraded my KiwiSDR system to four receivers (0-32 MHz, 14 waterfall slots, 6 audio only slots) all connected to the same 80-10 meter OCF dipole at 65 ft above ground. I am north of Chris and it is interesting to compare the difference in 11m skip between Massachusetts and Maryland...

    ICREDABLE SONAR COLLECTION

I always vacillate between what a wonderful museum collection and what a shame these aren't on the air being heard. I'd love to have one on the air myself.

Why does mic need to be attached to receive?

Ah, makes sense that it comes down to money. Dropping the cost of the radio to make it more competitive with little down side in performance. Just musing about land mobile equipment and there usually is some amount of circuitry on the board to do this. The profit margin in land mobile...

Why does mic need to be attached to receive?

Does anyone know the history or reason behind why CB radio is the only two-way radio type that needs its microphone connected to receive? My experience is with land mobile and ham gear as well as some VHF marine radios. I've seen a couple of exceptions to this with some older tube gear but...

    Bored

I let a friend have my original AP after I got a Shakespeare Big Stik up at 60 ft. He got a lot of good use out of it but I did miss seeing the AP on my roof. Don't know why but it did look interesting vs. the ground planes everyone else had.

    Bored

I had an AP back in the day and I loved it. Not sure if it was the best antenna ever but it did very well for me in comparison to many other antennas that came later. Anyone have any experience with the clones?

    6 meter Midland

Those and similar Midland models work well on 6M FM. My local PD is on 44 MHz and I program a receive only channel so I can monitor them as well.
