Not bad at all.....
I would suggest a solid solder line buildup between each + voltage wire connection on the boards to the transformer voltage input wire.....
That short piece of printed circuit board is still current limiting......
Looks good....
Here is what I am referring to:
I have been using a well known brand of RG400 coax for years.....
I use in in my HF shack for all coax jumpers...
I also use it for my mobile installations.....
But Eightwood, ? , I have not heard of this brand or supplier.....
Knockoff ? ......
Hmmm, I don't know......
The RFP2879 transistors ARE actually HG2879 transistors.
RF Parts had HG rebrand a LOT for them a few years back.
There can be some slight differences between LOT numbers.
Correct order of connecting equipment (Orientation).......
Dashes represent the coax jumpers between each piece of equipment .....
Transceiver ---- VSWR/Power meter ----- Amplifier --- VSWR/Power meter --- Antenna Tuner (If Used) --- Antenna Switch --- Antenna
The VSWR/Power meter after the...
I do have one of those exact Super Penetrator 500 antennas......
Mine is "New, Old Stock" still in the original box, which the box is a little worse for wear, but has not ever been opened......Stored in a dry environment.....
I had purchased two of these at the same time many years ago.... I...
Updated......
I have
Original Toshiba 2SC2879 transistors ...... from RF Parts
$180 each ......
I also have Texas Star amplifiers....All in like new condition.....
All amplifiers do have GENUINE, ORIGINAL Toshiba 2SC2879 transistors in them......
All have wiring upgrade.......
All work very...
Yes, and they are attached just so-so....... through some very thin printed circuit strips that will not carry very much current to the output transformers......
I use very good Marine grade, fine strand cable and attach them directly to the output transformers where the voltage and current is...
Each red power wire feeds ONE amplifier board.....
No need for 4 negative (ground) wires, as the entire heat sink is a ground......
and each board is grounded to the heat sink in 5 spots.....
AND
Recon
One 6 gauge wire is not good enough?
I did not want to clutter up the amplifier internals...
Yes, the build quality did change.......
I have some DX350's and DX500's a little older that are in "like new condition" that I have upgraded and do have original Toshiba 2SC2879 transistors......
They perform quite well on 10 meters.....
I haven't read this entire thread, BUT......
I suggest you get the manual out for that radio and do a complete CPU reset.....
I have brought two ICOM 718 transceivers back to life just by doing that.......
