This is eventually going to be a moxon for 11 meter. Once the rain quits. I am making it out of a repurposed Maco V58 that met its tragic end in a recent storm. I currently have no 11 meter antenna at all due to this said storm, which begs the question
would it be feasible to mount this moxon...
I actually ******* got it finally. I discovered that L20 was seized up and my plastic alignment tool was not adjusting it like I thought. I sprayed some deoxit down in there then some electronic lube, let it sit overnight still could not get it. Switched to a metal screwdriver to see if I could...
I think I found that thread that you are referring to about that. They give test points but it turns out to be wrong. I had a heck of a time finding a correct service manual for this to do the alignment. It’s only the most common CB in the world.
That makes sense, I probably did not do the dual coil right. I think you found my screw up. Yes you are correct, that is the coil it said to tune when the others are bottomed.
Here is the particular manual...
Hi Andy and thanks for the reply
I have a spare 29 that was in my parts box. I counted the turns in on L17 and L20, then reproduced them to my radio in hopes to get it back close, but to no avail.
I am going to review those links you gave me right now
This old beater cobra 29 Ltd classic is just a radio I use for experiments that I’ve had around forever. It’s not about fixing it so much as it is learning what I’m doing. I have spend the last 2 mornings practicing how to do alignments, and I figured out a couple tough problems without asking...
I will say that the caged dipole worked out extremely well, better than I had anticipated. It’s not Perfectly flat all the way across the entire band, but it is low enough that I do not have to use a tuner anywhere on 80. It is in stark contrast to the Hustler portion of the 80 m where I only...
Hi Homer
it is really difficult to see my caged dipole. I used black wire, and I created the spreaders out of 4 inch sewer pipe and painted them black to blend in. it is actually attached to the big tower that is in my pictures on my page. (The 60 foot Maco tower) But if you’re having...
Since I posted the review, I had to make a few corrective settings. At least this applies to the 7300.
Regardless of what the ALC meter shows, the 7300 does NOT like a mic gain of over 27 percent.
The ICOM manual will have you going ahhhhhhh and bringing the mic gain up to level off the ALC. My...
Hello all radio lovers united, and everyone else in between :).
First of all the mighty disclaimer, I’ve never left a product review before. And I am not associated with this company, nor any company for all that matter. There is nothing in this for me. I’m just a lowly ham. Second...
Just an FYI for anyone in the future, the #2 plug needs to be connected to get accurate PLL readings. This article says to leave it unplugged which gave me high and low mixed results. However, when I reconnected the #2 plug, I got the proper 4.7 volts from all my PLLs except one. I found the...
Sigh. I knew better than to do some crap like this. I hope it don't make my caged dipole electrically short now, I trimmed the hell out of it.
On a good note, it is out performing everything else I have on every other band, hex beam included. At least the conditions may be making this possible
I successfully made an 80 meter cage dipole using #14 THHN wire, and cut several pieces of 4" sewer pipe as spreaders. The feedpoint is a Jetstream 1:1 balun, and it is only at 37 feet because I actually want it for NVIS work. NOW, the feedpoint balun only had a so-259 connector coming out of...
Thanks. I know this probably wasnt the proper place for this, but I wanted to hear from someone who had one of these first hand. They are certainly proud of them
I turned my beam that was this AM but I just could not pull anyone out. My beam needs to go higher still, it is only on a 20 foot pole for now. I have a tower laying on the ground it's getting ready to go on, it will be 40 feet then. I wish it was 70
