11 meter is very quiet?

Sitting in the parking lot at work during my lunch break, I managed to make contact with a guy in Cincinnati Ohio. Surprised the heck out of me when he came back to me, the conditions were a garbled mess with at least two or more people talking at the same time. Just what I needed, today is Friday but I swear it was a Monday until I caught that DX. Just what the doctor ordered, DX therapy!

I know the feeling. A couple days ago DX was lousy but I managed to squeeze out a contact with my DX 2547 and the Turner Super Sidekick that I re-wired and I did get the Side Kick sounded good. Yeah well it’s time everyone figured out that there is a major solar event that has been going on for days your noise floor and the blocking of the layers that normally bounce your signal are not getting charged up.all you can hope for until this passes is a sporadic E opening. My big yagi has spun in circles the 5/8 vertical is noisy yesterday I worked two stations in Australia and one in New Zealand a couple of West coaster that I hardly ever get a guy way up in New York but nothing across the pond to the east. Having that Yaggy way up in the air on a rotor, I work the gray line but has been finicky lately.
Thanks for the heads up but I disconnected my antenna a couple days ago because they keep predicting scattered thunder storms & where there is thunder there is lightening. The weather has been crazy lately. First it was hot and dry & the lawns burnt up. Now we're back to crazy rain storms with threats of flooding but the lawns are coming back so we can feed our lawn mower that expensive gas. A man just can't win! LOL
Way out here on the far west coast of Canada it's been an almost non-stop E-skip pipeline to California and nearby states for several weeks now. Hawaii is in everyday for hours as well. Even in the middle of the night there is skip drifting in from California! It drifts in for an hour or two, then it drifts out again, then back in. Been talking to the folks around Lake Tahoe and the northern part of the High Sierra's almost everyday it seems! A lot of it is what I call "spotlight" skip. You'll get just two or three stations coming in really strong from a fairly small geographic area, and nothing else at all. E-skip is a strange beast to be sure! Also some longer skip around.......been hearing the Gulf coast and southeast states fairly often as well.
Was thinking of you and hoping you weren't in that wild fire area. I don't wish that on anybody !
Thanks FlyBoy50! Thankfully, we are on the coast and well away from the fire zone which is in the interior of the province.......about 150 miles to my east and on the other side of the Coast Mountains. Lucky for us, the prevailing winds here are off the ocean and that blows the smoke away from us.
I do have a daughter living just a few miles away from the Summerland fire, and she is on evacuation alert at the moment. Terrible situation up there with entire cities evacuated to the tune of 22,000 people and hundreds of homes and businesses burned!
Hey Guy's I am one of the summerland residents that was evacuated Saturday am stayed around till it wasn't safe my first experience of being that close to a fire storm , very lucky our neighborhood is still intact one street to the west was impacted not sure how many homes where lost
I had no idea you were a fellow BC resident Murdog! One of my daughters is on the west side of Penticton and on evacuation alert. Fire seems to be moving in that direction.......Shingle Creek and Brent Lake got the evac order within the last hour. Scary times! Glad to hear your home survived! My kids spent part of their childhood in Garnet Valley which has been devastated by this fire.
Skip down here has been dead all week-end.

Skip was suppose to be poor today but as I was showering to get ready to go to a friends viewing that passed away the 2547 was banging it out but the plate was full today so could only listen even on the mobile. I will say as much as I don't really care for my location I feel fortunate I don't deal with all the natural disasters. Make you sick to hear what people lose and have to start all over again !
So if you know the area the place is kinda at the base of Cartwright , watched the fire move north and northwest up garnet .
Nothing really they could do except try and save structures .

You BC guys may be able to hit the Puget Sound 7 o'clock SSB net on 27.405LSB on Saturdays. It would be a stretch but I've heard BC before. If you can, orient to Port Orchard, that is where net control comes on - at the end of the checklist 995 asks for new visiting stations. We've been around over 30 years!
Thanks for the invite TheRATT! Port Orchard is just about 204 miles from me, so it wouldn't be possible on groundwave and it's a little bit too close for E-skip. I have talked to people around Puget Sound on backscatter and aurora skip a few times over the years so it can definately be done....just not very easily from here!
