I have not reported band conditions last week or so due to being redundant on the same stations that I work almost every day during Meteor Scatter mornings.
That being said I thought this opening last evening was worth some special reporting.
The opening started around 23:00z +/- (7:00 PM EDST). I worked at least 12 stations over the next 60-90 minute time frame.
This opening which I think makes it worth reporting was the significance or density of the paths I was hearing.
The signal strength in the 800 -1000+ mile path between Indiana, Florida, and the Gulf Coast was crazy.
I worked one station in Florida, who was using a Tarheel mobile antenna clamped to the balcony railing of his first-floor apartment near the Tampa area.
He made mention of his first contact on 6 meter SSB with this set-up. I also worked 2-3 stations using Squalo antennas none of which were at more than 20 ft above ground.
There were 2 stations worked with homebrew 1/4 wave vertical ground planes at less than 15 feet above the ground. These op's built them to work local 6-meter repeaters in their area.
The good old inverted V Dipole antennas, none over 30 feet at the apex were also worked.
I could have worked many more stations, I, however, was trying to spend some extra time chatting with each op over and above the hello, given grid square and signal report format. I was just having fun working the op's that normally would not have this strong a path or opportunity to make contact with my area using the systems they were operating with.
I finish with one op on his Squalo antenna and he wanted me to listen for his neighbor who was also on frequency. I said I would. The operator called he was down in strength but was 55 copy. The special part of this was the fact he could not get his rig to operate at full power to his Hex-Beam. His rig was only working at 2-3 watts PEP out. He later figured out he had his rig in digital mode and his power was pre-set to that level!!!
He called me again later at 59+ when he had found his operating error and was at the full 100-watt output!:ROFLMAO:
So all this being said, it certainly looks like this Eskip season is going to be fun and interesting.:D
I should also note that a couple of Florida operators worked Africa stations yesterday. The Caribbean and upper East Coast stations were working into Europe for a short period during the mid-morning also.(y)
Get them up and have some fun!
    Damn I love this band!!!!
    All the Best
    Gary/W9FNB

PS: It should be noted that stations in Texas were working stations toward the West Coast in AZ and S. California during the same time frame.
Stations in Tenn and MO were working due East to Coast!!!(y)
    What fun.

    Gary

Got a day off yesterday and had a little time in the morning to play. Heard a couple guys chewing on 50.125. At 14:43z (9:43 cst) both located in DM97. 5/7 w QSB but pretty decent. I'm just starting out on 6 and only have a few states so far. Kansas was a new one for me on 6 (y)

Willing to bet it was : W7GKM and N0RZ in DM97.
Bob/W7GKM was using an Attic mounted Squalo and 100 watts!
Had another op near them, (I think!) was running EFHW at like 40 ft. and tried to report how well it was working because I was 20 over!:ROFLMAO:
Funny how some guys thinking they have superior antennas are BURIED by others who make an effort to maximize their signals even though they have marginal locations.:)
Bob made mention how he tuned the Squalo for true resonance across the phone band and not the lowest VSWR.
    Yep, it was working well.

That's exactly who it was Gary. I plan to get my 5 element up to around 50 ft this summer. Only at 30 ft now...
