This is why I wanted to build an i2c connected frequency counter. Hook it up to an arduino and let your computer do all the readings.

What about zero-beating it with a GPSDO referenced signal generator near the same frequency and letting the arduino sample the audio frequency? It may be easier than connecting an arduino to a counter.
