Do not buy or request warranty service on DJI Drones

Maybe I'm stupid, but I just ordered another one from Amazon. It had a $20 promotion. I read the recent reviews. People were posting reviews this week, so they obviously received them.

I read one review that mentioned a plain box. From what I can gather, this is being sent from Japan, instead of Canada. Maybe the seller is janking shipment for Customs.

I miss flying it. It's really enjoyable. My old army buddy brings his airplanes and helicopters and we'll hang out in the back field and fly. There's other manufacturers that make a similar drone, but their firmware locks the altitude under 400 feet. DJI locks theirs at 1640 feet. If anyone knows of another similarly priced drone that flys over 400 feet, please let me know.

When I sent my old drone back, I kept the controller and battery, so I will have spares now. There's a chance I'll get another drone back, but I'm not crossing my fingers.

It was your property. Customs cannot go around confiscating things that they mistakenly allowed into the country. How many other things are made with forced labor? Are they going around collecting shoes and shirts from people? And what would they do with these confiscated drones? Surely they are not being destroyed. I'd bet they are being shipped off to war. I would have demanded to be reimbursed first, then popped it in the microwave for 7 seconds before sending it back (since it clearly cannot be resold elsewhere).

Got an email this morning from the customer service manager. Says they are in talks with Customs to allow shipment from Canada. Wants me to wait 10 days to see what gives. Not holding my breath.

I shipped my drone back to customs. Today, USPS delivered a box I wasn't expecting. They sent my drone back. The letter inside still seems to say I have to return it in 30 days. Doesn't make sense. Starting to get exasperated with the whole mess.

A few weeks after the Mavic 4 was released, there were several US retailers that somehow got stock and sold them. Others were buying them in Mexico and Canada. Allegedly, DJI would not register outside purchases for warranty claims. Dunno if true.

I bought another Mini 4k a few days after I sent mine back to Customs. It was even $20 cheaper. Even now, eBay has a decent amount of DJI drones at normal pricing. I have seen some with crazy high prices though.

Last night, I ordered a Mini 4 Pro for $1070. The listing says it's in South Korea, but UPS shipping label has it coming from Texas. I also ordered various spare parts. I tried finding something similar to DJI, but there really isn't anything decent. I simply enjoy flying them. Other manufacturers restrict the firmware, which in my opinion cripples the fun factor.

The whole thing is BS. Trump is gonna let them fade away on 12/24/25. I certainly wouldn't buy any of their flagship. Seriously doubt you'll get warranty support. I feel sorry for the thousands of people that earn a living with their higher-end drones.
