The refinery hasn’t had any explosions in about six or seven years... a bunch of acetylene bottles blew up two summers ago.

I'm just about to build an oil-cooled dummy load by inserting an air-cooled one with two parallel 100ohm Carborundum resistors in a frame, into a stainless pot and filling it with ATF. I'll not be running any more than 100W into it, for now, until I get something more powerful to try out.
I'll let you all know if I burn my house down.
Digging around, there seem to be plenty of people who've run ATF-filled dummy loads for years, with no downside.

Go you most any Feed Store & buy a Gallon of Mineral oil for Animal Usage & it cost far less than regular mineral oil used for humans.

Food grade mineral oil is what i went with mostly because of the covid shut downs at the time.
The mineral oil is really a better choice to atf should you have an issue or need to service. Also be sure the manufacturer says the resistors are ok to be immersed in a petroleum based oil.

If you need mineral oil, another good place to get it from is a HVAC Supply house. Use mineral oil on vacuum pumps.
