FCC requiring that EBAY sellers submit FCC ID on any radios going up for sale????????

I just saw this on a YouTube video this morning..... so who knows if it is true?????

That guy was apparently involved in CB repair and said that HE just heard that the FCC has placed requirements on EBAY that THEY require submission of the FCC ID for any radios put up for sale. The guy went on to pick up several typical CBs and show where the FCC ID is on the plate on the back. But then he picked up a 23 channel Cobra 29 and showed that it did not have an FCC ID, it only had text saying that the radio was 'TYPE ACCEPTED' for use. He THEN went on to show several 10 'export' radios and showed that they did NOT have an FCC id at all... but said that hams could USE non type accepted radios so apparently nothing was put on those radios to show type acceptance.

So what does the 'hive mind' here think????

First off.... is this just BS? (as in... FCC has done no such thing)

Is it something that they could conceivably 'do and make it stick'?

Is there a way around it? On this point... if they don't validate the FCC ID 'on the fly' then EBAY themselves would never know if the FCC ID you put in matched the radio. But, if they created some kind of 'BOT' that would actually validate that the FCC ID comes back on the radio being listed.... hmmmmm????

And this could create headaches for selling 'batches' of radios.

It just seems like... if they CAN actually do this... it is going to put a great big hickey on buying/selling radios on EBAY???

What do you think??

Bob

OH NO! Its hit USA (eBay.com) now!

Sad times ahead for you all as far as eBay goes if its anything like eBay.co.uk. Back in April this year people noticed their listings for Export Radio's and old non-approved UK radios getting pulled with little or no warning.

I'm not sure if its sound to link to other UK based forums or not on here, maybe someone (mod) could let me know if thats sound or not? There were multiple threads and posts in forums and fakebook groups and its been ongoing.

The amount of interesting export type radio's for sale in the UK cliff edged and hasn't really recovered. other platforms have sorta filled the gap but its all over the place.

The French eBay (eBay.fr) was not affected the last time i looked but they got Ireland recently.

Stupidly, when eBay UK were challenged they quote FCC rules to UK sellers on their UK platform. That was hilarious! As far as I remember non-type approved radios were fine to own BUT not fine to use (there were exceptions) in the UK.

Anyway, its a Sh1t Show over here and the prospect of impulse buying a strange export radio on a Sunday night @ 6pm has all but gone here in the last 6 months.

There goes Si5351 breakout boards, VFO/crystal kits, 433/900MHz modules, nanoVNAs and a bunch of other stuff if they want to get technical. This needs some clarification. Does it count devices intended to be used in the building or repair of an RF emitting device or literally anything that generates RF? Does it count closed-circuit devices not intended to be connected to an antenna?

Even though lots of guys are using these export radios as cb radios, they really aren't a real cb radio, due to the excessive RF power and frequencies outside of the 11 meter band. So I can see why the FCC wouldn't put their FCC ID on an export radio.

But the equipment is not illegal to have as long as you don't transmit.
The FCC needs to enforce radio rules, not prohibit what is bought and sold on eBay.....

Take the covers off and sell it as parts?
Tried that. Non-functional hulks missing vital parts got flagged by fleabay, and kicked off. Don't want to collect too many of the nastygrams they send you when a sale gets killed. Could be I'm getting extra-special attention by someone who files a gripe when I posted a RCI or Connex parts hulk. I have earned the dislike of some ham types over the decades. Won't matter after the 13th, anyway.

How long before Facebook marketplace gets the same treatment? I don't go there, but it's an alternative if you like that kind of thing. I'll guess a lot of traffic will find its way there from fleabay. Or maybe even to YouTube.

IDK how anyone is making money on eBay these days anyways. It seems the only one winning out is the package carrier. Maybe this will eliminate the yellow microfiber bandit? Idk, idc, good riddance to bad turns.
