Goodbye Tech Nine Videos

HMMM,,, there is many such types of builders that broadcast their products, some even build them "Live" on FB ,, why has no other so called builder received a letter??

FCC doesn't care what you build or show on YouTube in terms of radio equipment unless it's sole purpose would be to cause interference to the radio spectrum which then falls into a different category anyway.

You can build linears, radios, or just about anything you want that's radio related and show it on YouTube - completely legal. Using it though may be a different story.

This is where ham guys seem to get the law wrong. Anyone can own any of the ham equipment, amplifiers etc - any cb guy can own an ameritron - not illegal until they hook it up to an antenna and use it.

Either the guy got something fake from someone to scare him or he just doesn't want to do videos anymore.

I don't buy it. Many youtube videos are intended to be fake. Many youtube videos show acts against the law. Last night I saw CNN broadcast a murder, that was later put on youtube. There is nothing wrong nor illegal about communicating illegal acts.

Hijack warning: Second, to say that new CB radios are good and usefull out of the box and shouldn't be "tuned" is dead wrong. I bought a brand new car yesterday, a house, a politician, a gallon of milk, a hooker, a wife, a TV and a CB radio. All of them sucked out of the box (except the wife, she refused), and all of them needed some "tuning". New things are seldom good out of the box.

Your right except there is a difference if what you build is going to be marketed and sold to the public.

Ham guys don't necessarily get the rules wrong, CBers do more often since most have never read them or care about them anyway.

Rf Amplifiers are illegal to have at your CB station whether hooked up or not unless you have a license to use one. The rules are clear on this. This falls into the possession category at your station which is not quite the same as owning one. The FCC can't regulate what you can own, only what you use at your CB station.

Look up part 95 rules from any source you want and read for yourselves.

RULE 11 - Linear Amplifiers

{A} You may not attach the following items (power amplifiers) to your CB transmitter in any way:

[1] External radio frequency [RF] power amplifiers, also called linear amplifiers, or linears; or
[2] Any other devices which, when used with a radio transmitter as a signal source, are capable of amplifying the signal.
{B} There are no exceptions to this rule and use of a power amplifier voids your authority to operate the station.

{C} The FCC will presume you have used a linear or other external [RF] power amplifier if-

[1] It is in your possession or on your premises; and
[2] There is OTHER EVIDENCE that you have operated your CB station with more power than allowed by CB Rule 10.
{D} Paragraph C above in this section does not apply if you hold a license in another radio service (Amateur, etc.) which allows you to operate an external RF power amplifier.

Get your Ham license then you can legally posess a RF amplifier at your station, just unhook it if you get Uncle C. Knocking at the door!

yeap its all about possession....it could be under your bed covered in 30 years of dust and in its sealed factory box..if you are not allowed it then why do you have it?..no different to having a gun with no bullets under the bed and no licence.

the notion that having a amp when you are just a cber even if not ever used is not illegal is wrong..no country would allow that

not sure if tech nine was a ham or not but if he was and had used a 10m radio (on the 10m band) in his videos he may have some leg to stand on ...
but we all know that was not the case .
.maybe this will be a lesson to the likes of bbi..telstar and others to just show a video of the amp in the legal band its "supposed" to be used on

we all know 10m amps can be used on 11m

what ever happened to the no 10m amp law the usa had? was that removed?

No amps capable of TX from 24 to 144 MHz are to be sold by US manufacturers. Imports can be but must be certified and receive a FCC ID number.

Licensed hams can legally modify an amp to TX on any amateur frequency afterwards.

Why couldn't it have been one of the guys buying amp kits from ICA and trying to pretend that aren't building the same amp as everyone else?

I enjoyed watching him build the cases, etch the boards and do everything by hand. Class C CB amplifiers or not the man is a craftsman.

thanks

yes here we are allowed them but if they EXCEED the 1kw level at manufacturers quoted specs for the tubes/transistors/fets/ldmos whatever then you are in possession of a amp you are not allowed (which is stupid as anything sold before that law came in is breaking it also like TL922//the larger heathkits etc etc that could do more than 1kw

had my mentor get busted (famously) for his 3cx3k amp he used on the ham bands ..only because of the ratings listed for the tube in spec sheets...
it did not matter to the RSM that he never used it above legal limit (ehh dummy's he was running it from a standard house 10amp 240v wall socket) ..he just liked a tube he could cruise along and would outlast his life span doing so
some laws are dumber than others
