I am trying to start up my Realistic DX160 after a 25 year shut down. I went to start it up and installed a new ground rod and wire and run about 100ft. straight wire out in yard. But all it does is light up, no reception at all. Can anyone tell me what I should check. I sprayed the tuners but still nothing. I'm not to sharp at this. Al

Have you looked inside yet?? How was it stored as well??

Poorly. I just left it on a shelf in the basement. (Dumb). I took the covers off and sprayed the tuners . Still nothing. Al

OK, check for corrosion on the antenna connectors. I'm not really familiar with that radio so beyond that I'm pretty well useless.

Make sure the OPR switch is in the REC position and not STAND BY.

Yes , Its set right. I went on Owners manuel and it told me how to set it up, but it did not say anything about my problem. Al

I've not got a clue what that is, or where they are located. Any info you can give me would sure be welcomed.I'm just an OLD dummy at this. As for using the phones, the S Meter does not move off zero. Al

Don't worry about my problem. I hope I didn't make a mistake but I bought a used DX160 off EBay. I was told that it is working and I should have it in a week or so. Then I'll have the other for parts. Keep your fingers crossed for me.Al

Do you have a speaker plugged in? The DX160 does not have an internal speaker.

Also if you tune on the AM broadcast band does the signal strength meter move or show signals from a local AM broadcaster?

No, It does not move no mater which I try. And yes I have my speaker plugged in. Al
