How much is a Siltronix 1011D worth?

I've a 1011D along with the seldom-seen FD1011A counter (the one that also showed channels 1-40). A true barn find. Dirty, but powers up and receives. No mic but I do have an extra 8950.

Too many other projects going on right now. Interested? Drop a PM my way!

Paul678 i havent forgot you.

Will look up the info and send it to you.I have copd very bad andf on oxygen all the time.So today has been a bad day for me.I am trying to stay out of hospital, running a very high temp and coughing alot...but will look it up and send it to you.73 de JW

Thanks much. No rush of course, take your time, as
I haven't yet purchased the rig yet. The seller told me
they would call today, but nothing.

Your health is the most important priority naturally.

Update:

Sorry for the confusion, I mixed up this thread with
my other Yaesu thread!

But I just got a call from the seller, and he wishes to
sell the following:

1) Siltronix 1011D (no microphone, but cheap and easy to get, right?)
2) FS-600A Watt meter
3) SP-1011 speaker
4) FD-1011 frequency counter

All for $100. His father passed away about 2
years ago, and the rig was supposedly working fine
back then, but the equipment has been sitting on the
shelf collecting dust since then. But the funny thing
is, when I asked if I could bring some test equipment
and make sure the rig still worked, he said no, he
just wants to sell the stuff as-is. So right there,
it's a bit suspicious as to the working condition. Now,
I've been an RF/Microwave engineer for many, many years, so
I'm sure I could fix most problems, but my tube
and Ham experience is limited, so there's no 100% guarantee.
But from a bargaining point of view, I'm obviously
not going tell the person my background, and I'm
thinking of offering $60, and perhaps settling on $80,
which I think would be fair, because even as the
radio most likely still works, there is the chance
someone dropped it or spilled something on it.

Additionally, I have a Daiwa CN-801 power meter
already, which has a selector switch for Average and PEP,
which is not the same as the SSB and AM switch
of the FS-600A. But if I set the VSWR by having the
Carrier Insertion Control fully clockwise, I don't
see why I cannot use the Daiwa. But my point is
that I have another bargaining chip, as I don't need
the FS-600A.

So am I being way too cheap and stingy here?

Thanks in advance!

Go for it! Those are cool old rigs, and they really sound good on the air. I have talked to a few guys over the years that used them.

That is a good deal, the display and meter alone will get your money back, and if it has been sitting no longer than you say it should fire right up and talk just fine.I had a Shure 444 mic on a 1011 I had years back and it was a good mic for that radio.....

Great find to say the least !! (y)

Ok, Update:

I bought all of the following for $100:

1) Siltronix 1011D
2) FS-600A Watt meter
3) SP-1011 speaker
4) FD-1011 frequency counter
5) CM17S Microphone
6) 4 CX-3 coax antenna selectors.

n0nza said that he would find me the mod for
this, so I can use it in the
freeband 27.415 to 27.995 MHz.

What sort of antenna would you all suggest for this guy? For
contacting the rest of the world from the USA?

Inverted V? Sloping dipole? Thanks much.....

the mint one that i had

And is there an easy modification for use in the
freeband 27.415 to 27.995 MHz?

Should be, since stock it starts at 28MHz.that Don Berry beat me out of in R.I. i turned down $300 for,it had the freq counter and a nice D104.I keep looking on here for the dweb to try to sell it.73 de JW

Thanks in advance....
It was a nice one.Beware of Don 512 R.I.

n0znz, did you ever find the mod for
this Siltronix, so I can use it in the
freeband 27.415 to 27.995 MHz?

Thanks.

Oh, nevermind! It's already been modified for
the freeband!

Actually, I kinda wanted to do some tinkering myself, but
oh well.

Ok, like this one:

The Ultimate Guide to 11 Meter CB Antennas

But it's huge. I don't have room for it, nor do I really want
to build it.

I might just do a simple sloping dipole.....

Amateur Beam Antenna Calculator

You can use 1/2 wl as a driven element, build it out of EMT Conduit, available at any of the home repair stores, including the 2" boom.
With a few hours work and a few $$ you will have a home brew yagi that is built better than any commercial yagi as far as strength and the sense of accomplishment knowing you built it yourself.

When you make that first DX contact you will realize that the antenna is 95% of your signal.

That old silkie is a screamer on SSB, I have about four in the shack, put it behind a god antenna system and start busting pile ups.

Ok, at a mid frequency of 27.705MHz, the reflecting element
is about 18 feet, according to the link you sent. I just don't have
the space for that, or I really don't want to try to put it on my
landlord's sloping roof!

I'm probably gonna go with a simple sloping dipole, but yeah,
I know it's not optimal at all, but I just need something quick
and dirty. Do you think a sloping dipole will be enough to make
contacts to Australia, Japan, etc? Or will it be too poor a
performer?

"Silkie" is slang for Siltronix? cool!

There is a yahoo user group for silkies, worth joining good info.

HomerBB has a thread on a full wave loop, full wave made of wire, works good.

I did not know you had restrictions on antenna mounting throws another curve in the program.

A 5/8 wl ground plane will work well IMAX2000 or do a site search and you will see several home brew projects on ground planes.

I am a firm believer in roll your own when it comes to antennas.

as far as the sloper and JA land? Yes it will work but remember you are competing with other stations that have multi element antennas with lots of gain, where as the sloper or dipole is not much gain.

Get something in the air to talk on then experiment with antennas to see which works best for your QTH

Most of all HAVE FUN.
