Home Radioddity QT80 HF Radio Review

20 to 40w PEP is what you should expect on 15m as a rule. The RX sensitivity is also slightly reduced, as it is towards the hardware limits of the radio. No performance specs are officially given for 15m, it was provided as a "gift" band because the radio still remains clean (without creating harmonic issues) at 15m.

One last question/comment. I grant that I'm coming in towards the end of this although the thread is only from June 22, AND I have only recently become interested in getting (another) radio out of this category.
Anybody correct me if I'm wrong but is not the QT80 here a Q6PRO with a different label on it?
The Q6PRO comes out last year and is had at a bit of a cheaper price ...... so I'm not getting the reason for taking the QT80 .... unless you just like seeing the Radioddity sticker-name on the face.
Am I missing anything?
 
The q6 pro was available before radioddity released the qt80 which is in fact the same radio. Yes different label but same radio inside. Now the perk you get with the qt80 is customer service and warranty which isn't available from sellers in the good o'l USA.

Pretty much customer support and warranty is why many go with the qt80

My brother went with QT80 for this reason.

I got my money back from ebay this morning on the seller-botched QT80 buy. Have a New one coming. Will be looking forward to trying it out. From what everyone has said I believe I'll be very happy with it. Will report back here what power mine does on 15 meters and also I'll provide the Power Progression Increase mine does from 21mhz up until it hits full power. Have dummy load.

QT80 arriving today. Question: On your Q6P or QT80 - what was the lowest frequency when yours achieves full power .... and Does your full power drop off toward the high end also?

Hi guys, can use some help. QT80 arrived yesterday and all is setup. On the air good this morning after resolving an antenna system issue from installing my stored 1/2 wave vertical and coax. Have rig fully opened up.
Issues:
AM 22-25 key with LOW forward swing (maybe 5 more watts) turned all the way up or any setting.
FM 55
SSB 60
SSB 15 Meters 45 watts - Good !
Very low Swing on AM with factory mic. Started with default 33 on mic gain but also tried it up & down both ways with not much effect.
Seems modulating well on SSB but only doing around 60 watts
AMNPC OFF but also tried in ON - little effect to the Low Swing Issue.

Any ideas on how to increase power on SSB and get more swing on AM?
Have NO SWR with a good separate meter and also seeing same results on MFJ 949 Series tuner both on antenna and dummy load.

Seems like you need to download the alignment software and get into the meat. I just went through a Q6-pro and it will key at anywhere from 1w to 25w. Average swing is nil, but at least it's not backwards. *I'm getting a solid 80w+ pep out of AM, and so close to 100 pep on SSB it's not worth mentioning. The software can be downloaded from Anytone.

I'm also in a Q6PRO & QT80 Facebook Group. A guy suggested turning OFF the TXNR and that seemed to help. Now seeing 100W SSB on a whistle and 60W Swing on AM. Maybe this rig would benefit from a power mic. I can use my D104 with an adapter or try one of the K PO 532 handheld power mics.

No Go on the software. Don't have a PC. Use an iMac desktop
 
While testing power levels thru the bands - just now seeing that mine is not 21~31 straight thru. It jumps from 21.500 up to 24.715. Not that I have any use for that area .... still thought it was supposed to be straight thru? Anyone else seeing this?

Ok, Here's my take, Long Story Long
The QT80 is a neat little bugger. I will keep it. I am glad to be back on HF in any capacity after being off for a couple of years. I'm on a budget. Couldn't spend a lot right now. Will continue to save up and get an IC 7300 when I can and put my 80M Loop back up to go along with the 10-11M Vertical.
The Price Was Right for this rig and the 15 meter Gift is cool. The audio could be more punchy but very many Export Rigs benefit from power mics anyway. I'll send for the Adapter tomorrow and use my D104. Would have been nice if they made the AM Power 50 watts to match the FM.
I am out in the country and the cb AM'ers are dying off and there is limited activity. If there were more guys around I'd get an amp or a bigger radio like an RCI2970N2 or N4 and have a bigger signal and more audio.
I will mostly be DX'ing with the QT80 on SSB, all bands, where it's doing some good power and there is more ability to make contacts.
I'd like to thank everyone kindly for all their reviews and help.

I've got a total of two hours on mine and it's back in the box and for sale. It's no where near the radio the Stryker 955 is. Some folks love these, I don't.
