Signal generator

its a hp 8656a you think it doesnt draw alot of power?

Being that old it would use more power than a more modern unit but that is relative. That unit is speced as using 125 VA MAX which is roughly the same as saying it uses 125 watts maximum. The fuse is only a 1.25 amp. It likely uses no more than a 60-100 watt light bulb. All devices should have a power consumption spec on the case somewhere usually near the AC power cord connection. I would not be concerned about the power consumption but would upgrade simply to get something newer and better.

Do you think it is better to have/use gear that isn't as accurate and that you have to make work by going to other extremes -or- use gear that was specifically meant to do the job at hand? So what if it might use a bit of current to get the job done? Not as though it needs to be on hours at a time to get the radio aligned. Choice is yours.

Heck your airconditioner uses way more than that. Considering the amount of time a signal generator runs in a year what can the cost be to run it? possibly a dollar or two.
