Anyone know how to do this HPC Mod in this video? Possible to do it to 497HPC, would it help any with the meter on 497HPC always reading high signal noise?

Looks like his box is a variable resistor set to the hi range with selected resistances in the kohm range.

And it looks like the leads go just south of that connector.

So maybe with a zoomed in picture of the components in that area to cross reference with the schematic (no board view available on cbtricks) it maybe could be figured out

A resistor sub box set to 33k leads me to suspect that it's meant to mislead. Might be legit, but the audio-circuit impedances in that kind of radio are typically lower than that.

Never could see the reason to tout this kind of mod without actually revealing what it is. Unless he's soliciting people to send him radio work.

I'm no radio tech by any means. I was wondering if something like that could be used to fix Stryker 497HPC high signal reading. It can be 9am or 3am and my 497hpc will read around 8. My location doesn't change it. If i hook up a different radio to same antenna and set SWR, it will read around 3 on it.

I would guess that both of them are probably off.

Only way I know to set the S-meter reading is with a signal generator that has a calibrated output level. We use 50 microVolts for S9. Other folks recommend 100 uV. Maybe one of those radios is adjusted for that, maybe neither.
