I grabbed a fairly clean looking and working TS-350 HDV with 2x HG 2SC2879's. Seller says there matched. Was $190..

I plan on running with my stock McKinley with 2w deadkey.

According to Mike's Radio Repair in a video report on the stock setup he said he say a max of 7-8w pep on AM and only a max of 11w pep on SSB.

How much output can I expect to get from this??

Should I spend another $50-60 and send out the McKinley for a tune-up and match the TS350.. I got a quote of less than $50 to do both and match them..

The only thing I can do when it arrives is hook up to find the dk as my meter only goes to 100w..

Heard the recommended dk with power on is about 65-70w??

You don't need to send out our McKinley for tune up or matching (don't let anyone tell you otherwise) - your radio has variable output so just set the radio output at the lowest setting to start with and then check and see your output from the amp. 2 watts AM carrier input is probably perfect for that amp, you'll probably see somewhere between 60-80 watt amp output and then with swing you'll hit somewhere around 200, PEP output will really depend on what your radio is doing. The McKinley is a good match for that amp as you're unlikely to overdrive the amp on AM or SSB like many people do with export radios.

Should be a great setup, have fun!

I was hoping to get to like 240am and 300ssb.. and put the RM203 back in my truck.

I am running a 30/33amp Megawatt PS for the TS350 itself set at 13.8vDC (which is for my Alinco HF which will be off when this is on) and a dedicated 10-12amp supply for the McKinley.

Maybe I'll just send the McKinley out for a mild tune-up for $25. I figure 2-3w low and max of 17 may get me up in numbers on the high side.. opinions??

    I don't want a Bells type tune-up with 24am and 22ssb..

Your radio will work just fine with a TS350. You should be able to hit 300 watts on SSB with 10-12 watts no problem. As stated, you don't need to have your radio "matched" because you can do that yourself with your variable power on the radio.

More power to you, the kids don't come with an instruction manual. Perfect opportunity to get junior familiar with our great hobby. Make sure you plan together time with the wife too especially if she has any post partum feelings. And don't blink, that kid will be all grown up and you will be saying "where did all the time go?". Its a balancing act for sure. When I married my wife (who is also my best friend), I already had 3 kids from a previous relationship and my wife had one from previous. Then we had a baby girl together, a true "Brady Bunch". She appreciates the fact that this hobby keeps me at home instead of having a hobby of drinking at the bar. Now the baby girl is 13 and her brother is 17 and they are the only two left at the house. We will soon be empty nesters and we are looking forward to having grand kids. Sorry for being long winded.

Any issues running the TS350 at 13.8vdc?? I read online the HG 2879 doesn't like lots of volts..

Currently my Megawatt 30A/33 is set for that for my Alinco HF rig..

    Don't be...

Funny it made me think of the times when someone in your life asks, "What-Cha' Been Up To Lately?" - and if it's been a long time since you've seen them, I look at my watch and ask back, "How much time have ya' got?"

The funny looks I get sometimes...

    Can't abbreviate life - it's an "F" word...

Without it, all you get it a "lie"...

Honestly, you'll just need to try it out and see what you get and then start tweaking your deadkey and mic gain for output.

The McKinley is not a powerhouse but Texas Stars tend to swing well with lower input compared to some other amps so you never know.

The difference between 180 and 240 isn't huge and certainly wouldn't be a big enough difference that I'd send off my pristine radio to somebody to start messing with it to get 3-4 extra watts out of it but risk screwing up a nice performing radio.

    This is a fun chart - http://cbradiomagazine.com/March 2007/Power in Perspective.htm
