Received the new radio today and had to return it. The RF Gain light would not luminate and adjusting the RF Gain did not function. This is the second defective Made in Vietnam CB radio within two months. Has anyone had any issues with this radio?

Wow ! That's a first for me hearing about a defective one . How was the box when you received it ? Could it have happen in shipping ? Myself I have no luck w/USPS seems like when I receive something that way , it looks like they dragged it here ! Or maybe Solarcon bought them out .

The box and contents of the 980 were in prefect unopened condition and all components were sealed and taped in small clear plastic bags.
The new Galaxy 979F I received two months prior had the SWR / Power / Mod switch wired in reverse and I returned it the next day.
Thirty-four days after I received a new Galaxy 2547, it stopped working as I was monitoring channel 19. I was using a Astron VS-70 Power Supply set at 12.7 volts. I could not return it to Amazon because the thirty-day return policy had expired.

You’re having a bad luck streak. Doesn’t a 2547 plug into the wall??

Yes, the 2547 can be powered by house current but I like using the power supply because I can monitor the DC volts and I don't have to worry about a AC power surge. One (disliked) issue with the 2547 is that I had to leave a lamp or ceiling light on so as to see the control knobs. I have it packed in the original box and I am undecided if I should have it repaired and who to trust to repair it.

I recently (September) bought a 980 via Amazon and it was ok. Maybe yours was "un-luck of the draw" ……?

I'll know tomorrow because my new Galaxy 959B is scheduled to arrive and if it has a defect, I'm giving up on buying another CB radio and going back to my Grant XL. I've had that radio since new in 2002 and (knock on wood) so far it has never had a problem.

Nothing wrong with a Grant XL Even if it does have dents in the bezel.
