I bought a new Uniden Pro-505 XL CB Radio from DTB Radio. I had DTB tune and align it and what I've been told,it's a pretty good performer for a compact radio. Right now it's at my Post Office waiting to pick it up maybe Saturday. Also I ordered a RF Limited TRB-X2 talkback kit with double talker to install in the 505. Also,I ordered from LED Lights, Bulbs & LED Lighting Accessories - SUPER BRIGHT LEDS some green, red, and UV LEDs to change the LCD display to a green color on receive and red to light up the display on on transmit. At some later date I may get a Astatic 636 mic for it. The talkback/echo knobs will be housed in a custom enclosure fastened to the bottom radio case with pop rivets. It sounds like chrome plating a cowpie but I think it would make it a nice radio.
One other idea. I'd like to wire it so that I can monitor channels through a PA horn. My TRC-428 nine scan has that feature.

Last but not least. The 505 in all it's glory.

It has it's protective plastic film over the LCD display.

Just tried it out with my Xtreme 2018 mic on it. Sounds good!
Tested it out to a local 6 miles away with a fellow CB'er who's talking in a Cobra 89. I'm putting 8 S-Units on him. Same as my CRE-8900 does.
Note: the fellow CB'er just acquired his cobra in a trade so the his readings may not be accurate.
Modulation is good. The 505's modulation is 90-95% so a power mic gives it good volume.
Even though the stock mic is made in China,it has a nice feel to it and has a knock out plug for channel buttons on top.
Haven't checked power output readings yet but a 30 watt PEP should be what it does.

Ah! You polished a _ _ _ _

Lol

If that radio had a switchable NB, I'd buy one.

It's not polished yet. It is DTB tuned and aligned though. It edges out any other 505's that you would buy at WallyWorld. I have yet to install different led lighting for the LCD display and a TRB-X2 echo board I ordered for it or a speech processor board like the one KAP68 has designed and made.

The 505 has better PEP than my 959. The 959 is tuned for a 4 watt dead key and 25 watts PEP.

But of course,I may not be a serious radio operator as you are.
I can see where a NB would be be beneficial to the hobby. I'm learning to be a sound tech at my church. I get to learn something new every church service through experience and through professional tutering
