    Hi all.

My dad recently got his ham license and has really been enjoying the sense of community and technology combined.

While talking to him on father's day, i expressed a desire to one day make it to Dayton as part of my bucket list.

He asked me what Dayton was, and i spent the next 15 minutes talking about it.

Dad's response was, "well why don't you and I make a road trip next year in the RV?"

so now i am officially planning my first trip to the Hamvention!!!

From all of you who have been down this road a few times; what does a newbie need to know?

all i know so far is that we will be staying in the RV and parking somewhere on site.

I am most interested in the swap meets. he will be most interested in seeing what new 2 meter equipment will be coming out.

I am also interested in getting to meet any of the forum members i have corresponded with for years.

thanks in advance for any advice!

There is RV camping on site, but hard to get. Plenty of RV campgrounds in the area though. Book early though, like now! Bring water, umbrella, and maybe a backpack.
Your program will have map, if you find something in the fleamarket, and you want to go back to it later, mark it on the map, or you will never find again.

Yes: RV space is limited but available...many of the big dealers and vendors have them there. Some really nice ones. There is other spots close-in and have shuttle service back and forth. The Club does have golf carts cruising around, if you make a heavy purchase you can get it transported to parking lot.
The Club and Fairgrounds personnel do a Fine Job for the event. We even had a city councilman from Xenia stop by the booth and tell us how pleased the city was to be hosting the event.
The Fairgrounds has plans to build another large building to house even more exhibitors, now that are located in larger tents.
The food vendors are as a whole very good. Pricing is about average for a large event type set-up, but overall quality and service IMHO is reasonable and good. I had a couple meals from a BBQ booth just next to where the Mid-West 6m DX Group booth was located and it was excellent. They SOLD OUT of product both Fri/Sat but mid-afternoon...Also had some Bourbon Chicken from another and it was really good!
The Outdoor Flea Market is a site to behold all to it's own. One could spend an Entire day there and not see everything.
Several reports, by several forum members were written after the event as to their opinions so search around the info is here.
I'll be there again next year barring any happening but looking forward to it all ready.
    All the Best

Hello All: Watch your wallet and anything in your back pockets as I had my entrance tickets pick pocked from me many years ago. And of course the lady cop there wanted to see my tickets that weren't there anymore. I had to leave as I wasn't going to spend the money for me and my girlfriend for new tickets. Yeah I was pissed!

So when you go to gatherings as this watch your self, only happened once but that's enough. Ruined the hole day, Id love to find that guy and adjust his everything....
