Like the title says, what is your favorite ham or CB radio of all time (so far) and why? Please don't just give us a make/model - tell us why you like it!

P.S. If you're replying to this thread, you could win a new radio! Check this link to find out how!

My Favorite Amateur Radio that I have owned was my ICOM 7700 Because it was BEAST on the desk & on the air. My Favorite CB was either my Browning Golden Eagle MK IVA or my DAK X. The Eagle for AM & the DAK for SSB. The MK IVA was the Loudest CB I have ever heard or owned with the Browning desk microphone & the DAK was a great SSB radio which was also very Loud.

Please Exclude me from Winning a radio. I have plenty as it is & I only use ICOM radios here. Thanks.

Favorite CB is the CPI CP2000. It sounds good, it looks good, and as long you don't crank the power for max watts the final will survive almost anything.

Favorite Ham radio is the Kenwood TS-570D. Because it was what I could afford when I wanted more than the 5 watts the Yeasu FT-817 provided.

JRC JST 245, just a lovely radio....performance.. looks.. and can still compete with present day modern tranceivers.

and for CB thats more difficult...just pick one u said ...hmm..
i guess the Superstar 7000DX.
From a "nostalgic" point of view... that radio has ultimate CB-radio flashing around it.

Kind regards, Henry

(PS you can exclude me for winning a radio...I appriciate the thougth behind it, but I have enough...better give it to someone who will value it more ! )

I prefer Kenwood radio's and after owning the TS-590 for a while, I decided to step to the Kenwood TS-890. I like the features, ergonomics, and overall performance. Kenwood is also the only radio manufacturer that includes full rig control software with remote/server capability. Others don't have it or charge for it and 1 brand other requires additional hardware.

A great feature with the TS-890 for people who own a TS-590 is you can keep the 590 and use it as a true fully functional sub receiver with the 890. All it takes is a DB-9 cross over cable for rig to rig interface and a RCA cable for RX out to RX in between the 2 radio's. The 590 runs in RX antenna mode so it is protected from TX by the 890. The 590 also reads frequency data when the 890 is in split mode so the RX frequency is automatically set on the 590. Nice!

My updated shack below and in the pics you can see the 890 is in split mode and the 590 is displaying the RX frequency.

Good morning to all !

To my experience I believe that yaesu Ft-450d is an amazing radio , portable, and can withstand of heavy usage.

Best 73s

Cobra 2000 I have had 2 of them for a while now and they are just solid top performers. Receive is just familial on the 2000 even better than my ICOM 7300 white noise is almost non existent. So I am able to pull out very distant weak stations. I have many many hrs on my 2000's and they just keep going and going. They always work when I want them to.

CB Superstar 360 FM easy to extend with another 2 bands with diode matrix, good receive enough power with good antenna.(BFY 90 recieve transistor)
Ham, FT dx 10 current radio excelent noise fighting, good receive and with Acom 500 S good for 160 up and 4 meter does the job here now.

Icom 9700 Bodnerised for 2/70/23 excellent for those bands.
Beats the FT 847 with collins filters i used before that.

I've had various radios over the years so it's not easy to choose my favourite. Before I moved over to SDR I would say it was my Icom IC-706mk2g. It was almost like a complete shack in one radio and for may years it was my only rig. Since the switch to SDR I would say it is my Hermes Lite 2. Also a lot in a small package.

Elecraft K3

I'm primarily a CW and FSK RTTY contester. This radio is the best CW rig I have ever used. Flawless and silent QSK. Each receiver (mine has two) hosts 5 crystal filters and combined with DSP allows you to filters out strong, close by signals to work the weak one.

I also like the ergonomics. Most of the settings are set and forget. You don't need to dig into a menu to change the settings I use the most. The knobs change "personality" depending on mode. For instance one knob is marked SPEED/MIC. When in CW mode rotating the knob changes key speed. In SSB mode the knob changes the MIC gain. No need to for separate knobs. I also like that it has a sperate knobs for VFO B and RIT/XIT.

I can easily operate the radio by feel. I can select a filter without looking at the radio. I can select a TX memory by feel. The XIT/RIT is bottom right and easy to find without looking.

It's FSK RTTY TX bandwidth is narrow and clean. I have an INRAD 500hz filter that works great for RTTY contesting.

I'll hang on to my K3. The K4 is nice, but I don't think it will help me make more QSOs.
