Just get one of These and be done with it  There are three or four of them about ten miles from home at a naval radio TX site among several other types.
wow i have the room just not the mula shmula. back before the high tech satalite comunication Andrews Air Force base had an antenna much like that. i was soooooooooooo amazed to see it rotate it's gone now heck maybe it could be had at a government auction some day. funny too also before the big move to satalite comm. you could see some crazy antenna combonations on the roof of the embasies around Washington DC. there are still some pretty big towers of roof tops.

That "these" looks like a typical 'government' log-periodic. Most of the larger Naval Stations had one (or close to one). The one at the Dallas Naval Air Station used Rohn 25 as a boom and wasn't exactly 'close' to that size. No idea if it's still there. What the @#$$ do you do when you have to get it down to repaint it?

Masterchief;

I think I've had enough. Now I'm a liar. (But, you don't call anyone names.)

All I ever wanted to do was have a dialog on inverted V's and trimount antennas. Especially raised vertically and stacked. However, when the subject is even mentioned, you slam the design as junk.
Trimount and inverted v's? When and where did you start that dialog? Show me.

I never called any antennas junk or stopped any threads about antennas. Show me where I said that.

Stay or go, I don't care. But please stop putting words in my mouth and get your facts straight.

As far as the so-called "name calling"...... If I called you an asshole, that would be name calling. I haven't and won't call you an asshole because I don't think you are. However, if someone says foolish things and acts in a foolish manner, they are a "fool" by definition alone. If someone lies, say about "gain figures", then they are a "liar". Is this correct or not? Still don't get it? If some one is 6'7", that person is "TALL" or if he weighs 450 lbs, that person is "FAT".

Now I fully understand people with over sensitive feelings might get offended by this. I understand that these words can hurt the ego, but the facts still remain. When I've said and done foolish things, I'm a fool also. The only difference is I can accept that and say, "Well that was foolish." or "stupid", or "idiotic". I wear that crown too sometimes.

So cowboy up Marven and try learning something from the many intelligent people out here. Don't be so quick to defend outdated and non-technical articles you know nothing about, especially in the face of so many who do.

I'll bet that you are probably a real nice guy, but you are too quick to defend yourself, even when you are not being personally attacked.

Since I've been moderating the ANTENNAS section since 2005, with no problems to date, how about I pull the trigger on this one first, since its clear the original poster's questions have been answered. If you want the last word, let me know via PM and I'll unlock it for you.

whew !!!! has the dust settled ? Antennas are one of the most hyped accessories in our hobby. Antron 99's, Hy-Gain CLRII's, Anttron (no typo, double "t") Jo Gunn, Antenna Specialists and others are not alone in mis-representing specs to get in our pockets. I don't begin to think I'm as knowledgeable as many of you on the subject of antennas but I do know Avanti had patents on the PDL and the Astro Plane maybe even the Moonraker...Look at Antron or Anttron.
Antron (single "t") is owned by Dupont whose motto seems to be "better living through duping those who don't know". 9.9 db gain, what a laugher. Anttron (double "t") claims to have an omni (305 something) that has 12db gain, over what nobody knows.
I see it as whatever floats your boat, fits into your price range and whose company has a proven good to great track record.

73's....HAPPY SAINT PATRICKS DAY

:D anything that uses a boom bigger than the tower i have up at the moment gets my vote wether it's in the perfect world ad people seem to live in (isotropic) or not. I like the gizmotchy design for a single band ant. but obviously it wouldn't work for a multi band design :D 73

Well I know this is an old post but the maco will key all over the jo gunn. I have had both and I know what I'm talking about, the jo gunn star is only a 1/4 wave antenna. The maco is a 1/2 antenna that is a lot longer. And the longer the boom the more forward gain you get. But you give up some rejection with longer boom. I have heard some people are useing a bigger around reflector for more rejection and more forward gain. The quad rejection kit will give you more rejection but less forward gain. Just trying to help out here. I would stay away from the high priced 1/4 wave 102" whip beam.

i would go with neither of those
rather

www.steppir.com

the MonstrIr will destroy the others and have so many more advantages

How so with far fewer elements & far less gain on 11 meters? GAIN is the biggest factor. The elements on the Monstir are also NOT properly spaced for 11 meters so that causes issues with less F/B ratio & it can't be corrected because it has no SWR. The Monstrir is a compromise in many aspects on most bands that it works on & the biggest reason is element spacing & it's biggest advantage is having no SWR across a wide spectrum but that is far less important that actual gain & F/B. Sorry but the Monstrir is just one big expensive motorized toy with fiberglass tubes that can't withstand the heat, humidity, & lightning & will come apart in just a few years while an aluminum antenna will still be here 30 years from now. Not to mention motor failures. With what they cost they should last 50 years but they are doing good to make it 5 years without a complete overhaul. LOL
