It's the same radio almost. I dunno about you guys, but I find the receive on my 959 to be on par with the 10 meter radios I own. It's smooth and pulls in distant stations without a lot of noise. A simple mod for that radio that is often overlooked is the installation of ecg583 schottkey diodes...
I ran the same configuration in my bonneville. 959 driving a Davemade 1x4. 1000cca battery, stock alt, and i put another battery in the trunk to supply the box. I ran the box variable wide open and dialed the 959 down to about 1 watt. I got 100 watt deadkey and swinging to 950 watts PEP. If I...
it has 2 1446s in it. output is about 250 watts, PeP of course, I would run no more than a 2 watt deadkey into that amp, and it likes plenty of swing. You may be better served with something that has 2290s or even 2879s in it. the 2290s will take a 3 watt deadkey just fine.

if you havent owned these from new, I might suggest that the rec diodes were replaced with the WRONG Schottkey diodes. The same thing will happen is you use 1n4001 diodes instead of the right ones, which i believe are 1n64 but dont quote me on that.
First off, you are wrong. the 959 is FAAAAARRRRR from a glorified 148. When properly tuned, this radio swings clean, clear and loud. the rec on it is second to none and it has the bells an whistles many people look for. The main circuit board is a 10 meter board, also. You will not see big...
I do not claim to be a pro, but it seems to be your radio needs one of 2 things...either an alignment, or a new pll chip. Time to send it to the shop of your choice. Or part with it. In which case I would like it. I love me some 959 :)
Stay away from the super ears mod, you'll blow the front out of your radio. also, if you do the Schottkey diode mod, don't use the 1n4001. I believe the one to get is the 1n6 or 1n64 something like that. They are hard to come by, but really make a difference. Someone on this forum may be more...
