sirio mobile ntennas

there you go, looks exactly like it does here in the states. should have seen it here when the hurracane came up the coast last summer...had no power for over a week, and thats just for starters..

in anycase, does your community use salt or salt by-products during the winter months by the hundred millon metric tons that they do here? it's crazy, but the end of jan. there is none left to be had for the roads.

and yes we have our share of theives here as well. been lucky, never had a problem.
maybe it is because of where i live, or the fact that they see me getting out of my truck with my .45... i don't know.

your advertising when you have any kind of radio antenna mounted on your vehicle, the way i see it, the bigger and more attractive and expensive the antenna looks the more attention it will get, and the better chance you have of it being stolen. such as those giant bright chrome coil spring antennas. might as well hang a sign on those saying "free". and besides, the sirio has less of a cross section profile than most antennas out there that i have noticed. take a look at one mounted on a full sized vehicle at about a hundred feet or so it is hardly noticable.

oh, and by the way....is it nessassary to use that kind of language to get your point across?? just a thought.

that will work, you may end up having to cahnge the coax. let me know how you make out.

Why will I need to change coax? It's supposed to screw right down on the base, at least I have been told. I gues it comes with everything anyways. just a pain to change out mounts is all.

The coil/guts to this antenna is almost the same as my Z-180. Thw whip length is just the same too. The real difference is having the ability to angle it down so you can drive thru the local hamburger joint. That's a plus . . .

Sirio recommends some ridiculous coax for ultra-high power use that cost waaay more than the antenna. But you can get away with using 12-15 ft of LMR-240/Ultra-Flex (~$17) and be safe to run nearly a kilowatt - if that is what you have in mind.

so you are going to change out the mount that you currently have? if you are going with the sirio mount it comes with 12' of rg58c/u. it is ok for general use, if you will be using a little power the before mentioned LMR 240 ultraflex is the better choice. just a better coax.

when i installed the one i have a few days ago i changed it out to 15' 3" and it works very well. i suggested this length as the resonant frequency of this antenna is 27.025....

492/27.025=18.205X0.84= 15.295....or 15' 3"

not sure what you are running now, i am sure that you would be happy with it. i was a long time wilson fan untill i was forced to try it. i was on the fence for a long time just as you are. and i am extreemly happy i decided to get one. as a matter of fact come monday morning im going to order another one for use on ten meters.(y)

I have a Wilson 1000 roof mount now. I am just going to take the Wilson's coil and stinger off and screw the sirio back in it's place.

I understand that the sirio will fit on the Wilson's base.

Yep. I use a Wilson mag mount with mine. The product description says that it uses a UHF connector. That says a SO-239 in my book . . .

i thought about using the wilson mag for mine, that was untill i seen the mag-145pl's construction. it would appear that it is mostly sealed against water intrusion with the aluminum sticker and the rubber boot on the bottom of the mag and on the top where the coax enters the mount it is sealed with a rubber gasket and O rings, not too shabby. i had to R&R my wilson 1000 mag 4 times in the last seven years due to rust....i bet the sirio mag lasts alot longer before you end up with any corosion issues.

it is also wider than the wilson mag witch is only 5' wide. the sirio mag is listed as 160mm or almost 6 1/2" wide and rated to hold the p 5000 series antennas up 70 mph.

Incoming Region Produces X3 Solar Flare
    May 15, 2024 @ 14:55 UTC
Another major solar flare, but this time from an active region just beginning to turn into view off the east limb. It is possible that the group responsible is old AR 3654 from the previous rotation. The latest flare, an X2.99 event just peaked at 14:38 UTC (May 15). Stay tuned
