not sure were to post plz help

Ive looked at a 257hp but im not sure about the modding part. What would be a good person to send it to to have the modding done? Or how easy is it to mod?

I watched a video about the magnum 257hp and I found out that the frequency counter on that radio is not a frequency counter that keeps track of what frequency your on. Does that matter alot or will it be fine to just use as a reference to know what frequency your starting at? Or would it be better to have a frequency counter that is already built into a radio that continuously keeps track being ill be having it in my car.

Just tune to a frequency and start calling, or wait and tune someone else in and talk to them.

If someone says your off frequency, just tell them to kiss your ass.

That's what I've been doing lately.

Lol

I haven't had the "you're off frequency" blarb since I got my 8900 however I do like to talk to those pretty close to my freq. One of the best contacts I've had was talking to some Southern Louisianians. Of course I got reminded of my RB(turned it off). :pop:

Is the magnum 257hp a good choice and good radio? Or is there something else that would be recommended? Kinda liking the smaller compact. But im still not sure on how well these small radios hold up. I have a black car and it does get kinda hot inside the car during the day.

I guess the gods will tell you if the 257 is good or is there something else I haven't owned one yet. In the southeast the summertime temps can reach 160 degrees inside a non tinted window car. I wouldn't have it sit directly in the sun either. Get familiar with the features on different radios. I like a lot of bells and whistles so to speak but recently I bought a Uniden PRO505 XL compact cb. It's bare bones as far as features go but takes up a very small footprint. Magnum 257:
Optima MK3:

Stryker 955:

Anytone 5555 V.6

You could do a search on this forum to find topics about these radios

Ok from what I can tell I might as well not go export radios yet for am and ssb. So im looking at getting a galaxy 959. Some ppl say good out of box. Some ppl say its scrappy out of box. If I buy one where should I buy it from and should I have it aligned or would it be ok out of box better than my 148gtl? All I hear on the forums is that my 148gtl is a crap box. I have a small 350 palomar amp. So im not looking to have the galaxy 959 pump out any watts thatll kill the amp. So would the 959 be fine out of box For my amp?

I'd go with the 257. Attach a little 50 mm muffin fan on the heatsink if'n your worried about heat.

The 959 is a good radio, but the 257 has more potential. Don't worry about paying to have it tuned and all that crap. Convert it yourself and start playing it.

It has a good warranty.

Thanks for the m42duster. I appreciate all the help ive gotten from everyone that has posted in this thread. How would I go about wiring the fan to power it? Like ive noticed some fans have more than 2 wires. I know red and black would be power. But would it matter the extra cords? If you can please post a url directing me to a fan for what im looking for. To many electric fans out there '.'
