I'm asking because I live in a self-built solar powered home...
I don't want to overload
my power inverters
with my other appliances...LOL...

In House AC Current How many watts would a Cobra 2000 GTL Base
Pull from your wall?

40,60,75,100 Watts Like a light bulb???...LOL

Look on the back of the Cobra 2000. Like any other AC appliance it will have the maximum power consumption written on the back.

Not enough information , again!,how far have you got that radio turned up? If you built your own solar powered home you must have a volt meter and a watt meter. Why don't you tell us? volts x amps = watts . My best guess is between 60 and 100 watts.

Yes ,but that is before the magic screwdriver is used.

I thought of that then I remembered it's a Cobra 2000. The power transformer in that radio is nearly maxed out when the radio is stock. If you managed to screw drive any significant extra power out of that radio the lights will just dim as the supply falls flat on its butt.

They always said that a troll would reveal himself sooner or later and you just did. I guess you forgot about PM'ing me back in the first of November with this same question. Back then you told me you were looking at buying a back up UPS for when the power went out. Now you say you are in a self built solar home and don't want to overload your inverters.

i.e. such as 40, 60 watt light bulbs???

Figure the current draw times the voltage to get watts INPUT. If the radio draws 3 amps at 13.8 volts then it is using 41.4 watts of electrical power. Allow for inefficiencies in the power supply (about 75-80%) and you get about 55 watts or so. Best guess is about the same as a 60 watt light bulb at most. Most stock CB's don't draw 3 amps and usually only about two amps unless it has been modded and peaked. That would make it about like a 40 watt bulb but only when transmitting. Receive is peanuts.

Thanks I wanted to know because I'm thinking about buying a Battery Backup UPS for my CB's so I can talk a couple hours when the power goes out
they rate Run-time by watt's of what your running LOL
