Bed Mount, but where?

Tenna-Hight.jpg
Mounting the antenna on the front bed rail by the cab and roll bar will cause problems with the SWR. That roll bar is a deal breaker, too much metal that is too close to the side of the antenna. You could try it and see what it does but you would be better off with it on the rear corner of the bed away from everything.
The 5' Firestik sticks up pretty high above the cab and rollbar. I'm hoping it's not too big of an issue, but I'll find out before long when I go to tune the thing.

Wish you the best, my offer of the light bar and bracket rail still stands!

Hope you get it to do what you want it to...

It looks good there - so hope it won't be any issues around it.

Your going to get allot of reflect problems off the cab there...Yes, 3' is above the cab...but 2 or 3' of it is right up next to the cab and that roll bar! The whole antenna radiates, not just the top half...

But do what ya have to do...

Y'all are highjacking my thread. PM each other or something.

Again - Y'all are highjacking my thread with this unrelated banter. PM each other or something.
Hijacking your thread? Well...everyone here gave you good options for where the antenna needed to go, and you called them "rediculous, Hic, Hillbilly" and opted to mount the antenna in the worst spot possible...so thread became "open game" for a Hijack at that point...good luck with the duck-mobile...

Correct

Listening to instruction isn't my strong suit. I'm working on it though. Be patient with me. And I'm considering mounting the darn thing at the back of the bed now. See? You guys are having a positive influence after all. :)

...so thread became "open game" for a Hijack at that point...
Yeah alright. Point made.

...good luck with the duck-mobile...
Thanks for the good luck wishes I guess. I don't know if "duck mobile" was a stab at me or not, but I'll roll with it. :) Either way, you're still appreciated.

Help me out, bro? Are you saying you'd fabricate me a rail I can mount on the 2 light brackets? I appreciate the offer. Now I'm considering hitting up the local fabricators around the corner. See what a fickle and indecisive man I am? I don't know how I tolerate myself.

I can't make it for you, I hunt for stuff in scrap yards.

Lets' see - the Light bar with the tube steel - using the bar you avoid the mess of drill holes in places you don't want. It's why I asked about grommets or knockouts on that light bar - easier to run simple "square stock" across and use longer carriage bolts for the lights. They can bolt thru to the tube frame and you'd have a convenient route to snake the coax thru to the cab

These are just some ideas to help with that light bar "bar" brace...

This one is "streamline" style...

Mount would be a simple 4-bolt (wide mirror mount style) the truckers use to - these I like because the bolt pattern can help you make this a very strong bracket to handle just about anything you can throw on it - from simple 5' Fiberglass onto 102" whips with Stainless Steel shock spring for long life durability.

You have far more options if you are willing to let go of your need to keep it pretty - because style never got anyone very far when it comes to performance - you need to get the signal out from under your hood - so whether your afraid to drill, because of depreciation, or because the trucks under a lease agreement - you have to make choices for us to help you - requires some willingness to work with us to help you spot, develop, fix and position antenna mounts and designs for your truck.

What is the diameter of the roll bar? I'm thinking maybe two stainless steel exhaust clamps with a piece of 1/4 inch thick aluminum about 4 x 6 and then bolt the mirror mount to that.

Wait I just found a band clamp that won't dig into the bar. This is for 3 inch. You would also be able to loosen it up and rotate it horizontal if needed for antenna clearance. Dang, now I wish I had a roll bar. LOL

I'd buy one of these Gem Top steel tonneau covers and drill a hole right in the middle.

Take no offense to thread jacking it happens , but there are so many knowledgeable people on here you won't regret joining ! Just roll with the punches .jmo;)
