I took the top off my new President McKinley radio and was looking to find the modulation pot.. to turn it up a hair, which must be RT206.. but what is PLC??

I see AMC RT206, PLC RT202
201 is the meter, 205 is drive bias
204 is final bias, 501 is freq

Got AM-S and SSB-S, 101 is ASC

Anyone know the other pots??
Is there an AM power pot?? I know some just say AM PWR, though I don't see it..

Like I said I just want to tune up the AM modulation a tad.

after looking at the picture the PLC you mentioned would be the ALC. when they punched a hole in the circuit board it took one leg off the A for ALC.
here is a link with the phone number of President in the US.

https://president-electronics.us/

after looking at the picture again it has CARR by one VR. that could be the carrier adjustment. have never worked on this radio before but the way it is marked it is fairly straight forward on the internal adjustments.
does the front panel have an adjustment for high and low power for the radio?

Check this video out...around 24:30 he tells ya where the Modulation and SSB pot's are at...On mine modulation was around 75% out of the box, and SSB about 6 or 7watts...After adjustments I now have full 100% modulation and 12w on SSB....This really is the only adjustments you should need to make with this radio.

AMC is Modulation
ALC (look's like PLC) is your SSB watts...adjust to 12w swing

My SSB is where yours was at when stock.. I can whistle to 6-7w on mine but that's it.. :(

Well...easy to get more out of it...just open it up, put on a strong pair of reading glasses or get a big magnifying glass, and turn up the ALC...just watch your meter when doing it, and stop at around 12 watts...You maybe able to get a little more than 12 watts out of it, but it might sound garbled to whoever your talking to on ssb...at 12 watts everyone said I sounded just fine.

and if you haven't already done so, you really need to do the same thing with the AMC for the modulation...it made a big difference on my radio when I turned up the modulation.

Those pot's are "tiny"...I mean "TINY"... even with two pairs of reading glasses on, and looking threw my magnifying glass at the same time, they still are tiny.

10 watts on SSB will be just fine for your TS350.

Just waiting to get new audio reports for SSB after adjusting.. my AM reports seem better with tiny modulation adjustment and it seems to swing more..

The TS now swings better on SSB as well.. instead of 4-6 now going up to 8 on the TS meter with same settings and same volume of talk as before adjustment. If I whistle I can do 9.. but we don't want to do that and cook stuff.

Also note I posted this for others to see inside..

Thank you for providing the pic...

Here's a separate take on that but it may help answer why people are having issues with how the radio operates...

There is a "zenering effect" that occurs with the bias method used - so it's designed to profile the gate voltage so the device stays in it's class of operation.

There's nothing wrong with it, you need to be prepared for it when it engages.

It's for a problem I call "hot gate" when the gate heats up from the switching and can't cool off readily and as quickly as the rest of the device can. This makes it act like it's overheated - and can latch on and stay on - the pic below helps you understand another SEPARATE issue or method I recommended for Varactor thermal tracking on another thread...

I have a NIB McKinley can I just run it with my tx star 250 stock no adjustments?

Thanks
Bobby
You can...I was for a while when I first got mine, but my locals told me I sounded like I was talking on a walkie- talkie...plenty of dk, just no modulation, and that was using a 1x2 amp...adjusting the modulation pot. really made the radio come alive...went from swinging around 5 or 6 watts to almost a 10 watt swing made a noticeable difference on watts out of that 1x2....

You'll probably have to take it out of the box first Bobby.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

(Along with the other 100 or so radios you have -"New In Box". Want to sell one of your Mark II's? I am interested!;))
